Forestry Mulching Cost in Weston, WI (2026)
Cut Brush Team · October 16, 2026 · 5 min read
Expect $1,500 to $4,000 an acre for forestry mulching around Weston, WI and Wausau, and $1,500 to $2,500 an acre to take honeysuckle out from beneath trees you are keeping. Below is what that price covers around Wausau and what moves a job within it.
Our figures describe one finish: brush, small trees and stumps ground into mulch on site, stumps flush with the ground and nothing hauled away. Full stump removal below grade, and cutting and hauling very large trees, are discussed and priced in the quote. Grading is not part of our price; we clear to the ground so a builder can grade. Every job carries a minimum charge of about $1,500: small jobs start there, and it is never an amount stacked on the acre rate.
What a Per-Acre Price Should Include
A bare per-acre figure leaves out three things that decide what you pay for a Marathon County woodlot.
- Getting the machine there. A tracked mulcher arrives on a truck and trailer. Whether that trip is in the rate matters most on a small job.
- A floor for small jobs. A quarter acre takes the same trip and setup as five acres, which is why our price carries a minimum.
- What happens after the first pass. Honeysuckle and buckthorn sprout from the cut stumps, so a first-visit figure is not what it costs to keep the ground open.
Our bands are on the Weston pricing page.
What a Weston Quote Should List
Our quotes carry each of these lines in writing.
| Line on the quote | What it covers | How it is priced |
|---|---|---|
| Main clearing | The acres, the trees kept and the finish | Per acre, inside its band |
| Small job | Work too small to reach the floor by the acre | Minimum charge of about $1,500, where small jobs start, in place of an acre rate |
| Sprout visit | Cutting the regrowth the next growing season | Its own line, so you can accept or skip it |
| Stumps below grade, very large trees | Removal or cut-and-haul | Discussed and priced in the quote |
| Stump treatment | Herbicide on the cut stumps | A licensed applicator’s work, not in our price |
Where an acre lands in its band depends on the stem count, how firm the ground is and how many trees the machine has to steer around. Two equal parcels near Kronenwetter can price far apart if one is open field edge and the other a woodlot grown shut.
Hourly and Day-Rate Bids
If you receive an hourly or day-rate quote, the risk of a slow job stays with you: if the stems are thicker or the ground softer than expected, the clock keeps running.
To compare one with a per-acre price, get the expected hours, the hourly rate and any charge for moving the machine. Hours times the hourly rate, plus the move, divided by the acres, gives a per-acre number. For a day-rate quote, use estimated days times the day rate instead. Add mobilization and agreed extras before dividing the dollar total by the acres. Then ask what happens if the job runs long. With a per-acre quote the answer is written down before work starts, and an overrun is our problem.
Wet Woods, Frozen Ground and River Frontage
Close to a fifth of the land around Weston is wooded wetland. A saturated woodlot in April can rut under a tracked machine; the same ground frozen hard in January carries it well. The bands do not change with the season, but on wet woods a start date that can wait for a freeze or a dry spell protects the ground. Winter suits honeysuckle work because most other plants are dormant; any stump treatment then is a licensed applicator’s job.
Water changes the scope instead. The Town of Weston sits where the Eau Claire River meets the Wisconsin River, and Wisconsin’s shoreland rule, NR 115, reaches 300 feet back from a river or stream, or to the landward side of the floodplain. County ordinances keep a vegetative buffer at least 35 feet deep, with access and viewing corridors capped at the lesser of 30 percent of the frontage or 200 feet. Invasive brush can come out of the buffer where the county allows it and the spot is replanted. On a river lot, those limits set how many acres are in the quote; inside the Village of Weston, ask the village’s Planning & Development department.
Honeysuckle Thickets and the Second Visit
The thick shrub layer under many woodlots here is bush honeysuckle, often with buckthorn. Both can close the shrub layer beneath a woodlot. Clearing opens the ground, but honeysuckle cut without treatment can resprout vigorously, so plan follow-up visits. A stand left for years is crowded with woody stems, and stem count, more than acreage, is what moves an acre toward the top of its band.
The first pass is never the whole cost. Cut honeysuckle sends up shoots from the root, so plan for a sprout visit the next growing season, priced in the understory band, or at the minimum where the area is small. Our Wisconsin bush honeysuckle removal guide covers the visits and what NR 40 means for Amur honeysuckle in Marathon County.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is clearing cheaper in winter?
The bands are the same all year. Winter’s advantage on wet woods is frozen ground that carries the machine without rutting, so a start date with some give lets the work wait for it.
Do you charge extra to bring the mulcher to Merrill or Stevens Point?
The same bands apply from Merrill and Antigo to Stevens Point. The trip is figured into the written total for your property, and nothing is added after the work is done.
What will one small honeysuckle patch cost?
Small jobs start at the minimum charge of about $1,500. A single patch usually comes in under that by the acre, so the minimum is billed in its place with no fee added. Adding a fence line to the visit makes better use of it.
