Land Clearing Cost in Peoria, IL
Around Peoria a quote usually starts with one question: is the land up on the river bluffs, or out on the flat prairie? Wooded lots above the Illinois River bring slopes, ravines and bush honeysuckle under timber people want to keep. Farm ground in Tazewell and Woodford counties brings fence rows, field edges and black soil that stays wet into spring. What you pay depends on which of those you have, how thick the growth is, and whether the ground can carry a machine in the week you book. The ranges below are for budgeting.
Each quote comes back in writing: one figure for the finish we settle on, with any return trips for honeysuckle resprouts listed separately so you can take them or leave them. Forestry mulching grinds brush, small trees and stumps into mulch on site; stumps end up flush with the ground and nothing is hauled off. If you need stumps taken out below grade, or very large trees cut and hauled, we talk it through and price it in the quote. Grading and build pads are not in our price: we clear to the ground and your builder grades. Any spraying is for a licensed applicator.

Peoria Rates by Type of Work
Forestry Mulching
$1,500 – $4,000 / acre
Standing brush and small trees ground to mulch where they grow. Young growth on firm, open ground prices low; an old honeysuckle thicket under big timber, or a slope above a ravine, prices high.
Honeysuckle & Understory Clearing
$1,500 – $2,500 / acre
Bush honeysuckle, brush and saplings cut out from under the hardwoods you keep. A fence row, hedge row or brushy field edge counted by its acreage equivalent usually falls in this row.
Land Clearing
$1,500 – $4,500 / acre
The whole parcel taken to a finish written into the quote. Saplings scattered through an old pasture price near the bottom; a closed timber cut and mulched to the ground prices near the top. Stumps end flush with the ground; taking them out below grade is quoted separately.
Lot & Homesite Prep
$1,500 – $4,500 / acre equivalent
House footprint, driveway and utility route opened in a wooded lot once the erosion permit question is answered. We clear to the ground and your builder does the grading; pads and grading sit outside this price.
A minimum charge of about $1,500 applies to every project. Trailering a tracked mulcher to a half-acre backyard in Peoria Heights or one fence row outside Morton costs the same whether it then runs two hours or eight. For a small job that minimum is the entire bill, not an extra fee stacked on the acre rate; bigger jobs are priced by the acre within the bands. Combining several small areas into one trip stretches it further.
Five Factors Behind a Peoria Price
Bluff, ravine or flat field
The same acre costs different amounts depending on where it sits. A wooded lot on the bluffs above the river can mean slopes, gullies and a narrow way in, so the machine works slowly and some edges are cut by hand. Flat farm ground lets the mulcher run long, straight passes, which is where the rate drops toward the bottom of the band.
How wet the prairie soil is
Black prairie soils such as Drummer hold a water table near the surface from January to May. A tracked machine on that ground in April ruts it and every pass takes longer. Late summer and fall are when the same field edge goes fastest, so a flexible start date is often worth more than any discount.
How long the honeysuckle has had
A few young bush honeysuckle stems under the timber go down in one pass. A thicket that has stood for years is a wall of tough, multi-stemmed shrubs that dull a cutting head and slow it down. The mulching price covers knocking it down; return visits for resprouts are listed as their own lines so you can see them.
Trees you want kept
Most people want the biggest, healthiest hardwoods to stay. Working a mulching head around trunks is slower than a straight run, and the extra time is part of the number. Mark every keeper tree with flagging tape before the job is priced.
How much soil ends up bare
Inside Peoria, disturbing more than 5,000 square feet of ground so the soil is exposed needs an erosion and stormwater permit, and county and state rules apply to larger projects. That rarely changes the rate per acre, but it can change the finish in the quote or add a permit step before work starts.
