What Cut Brush Does Around Marshall Township

The land around Marshall Township is new subdivisions backed by old hardwoods, with oak, maple and cherry on the slopes and multiflora rose and vines wherever a yard meets the trees. Cut Brush offers four kinds of work here: forestry mulching, full land clearing, multiflora rose and understory clearing, and lot preparation for a new house. Below, each one is explained with the jobs it suits, the ones it does not, and the smaller requests that grow out of it.

Rates are on the Marshall Township pricing page, and the local rules and towns are on the Marshall Township land clearing page. A quote costs nothing: request one here.

Forestry Mulching

The machine is a tracked carrier with a toothed drum on the front that spins fast enough to shred wood. Our crew walks it into rose canes, vines, brush and saplings, and what was standing becomes a layer of chips. Stems of about eight inches or less are ground as they stand; bigger trees come down first and their tops are ground on the spot. No pile, no fire, no truck.

The finish is walkable ground under a mat of chips, stumps level with the soil. In Allegheny County that answers two problems at once: there is no pile to burn, which the county allows only by permit, and no brush or logs to move inside the lanternfly quarantine. On a slope, the chip layer also covers the soil the machine has crossed.

Its limits: chips are in the way if a builder needs bare dirt, a thick chip mat will not take lawn seed right away, and rose crowns survive below the drum, so the thicket comes back unless the regrowth is cut again.

Land Clearing

We price clearing from the end result you describe: the trees to keep, the edge of the cut and the extent of open ground. Stumps are ground level with the soil beneath the chips. Taking them out below grade, or felling and hauling very large trees, is discussed and priced in the quote. Grading is not part of our price; we clear to the ground so a builder can grade. A single property might combine a thinned hardwood slope, an old field reopened to its edges and a building area ground down flat.

It fits a wooded back acre turning into usable yard, an old Butler or Beaver County field going back to pasture, or a commercial site in one of the growing townships. For one brushy edge it is more than you need; understory work is cheaper. Time on site depends on stem size, slope, soil moisture and the distance from the road to the work.

Marshall Township asks for a grading permit for new grading, excavation and fill, and the state's erosion rules apply to every earth disturbance, so ask the township before stumps come out or the ground is reshaped. Requirements vary by parcel, scope and jurisdiction, and the governing authority makes the determination.

Multiflora Rose & Understory Clearing

Multiflora rose is a Class B noxious weed in Pennsylvania. Allegheny County Parks describes a dense, thorny shrub up to 15 feet tall whose arching canes ramble up into trees, and which grows in dense woods, along streams and roadsides and in open fields. Around Marshall Township that puts it on the margin of nearly every overgrown yard, often tangled with honeysuckle and grapevine.

Our crew threads the mulching head between the trees you have marked, grinding the rose, brush and saplings around them. Nobody has to wade into the thorns with loppers, and nothing has to be dragged to a pile. Afterwards the woods open up to sight and to foot, and the canopy overhead is untouched.

Then comes the follow-up. The county's fact sheet calls for cutting three to six times a growing season for two to four years, and each return visit appears in the quote on its own line. Want the large trees gone as well? That is land clearing. Soft growth below the knee is cheaper to mow.

Lot & Homesite Preparation

Most homesite jobs have four parts: the footprint and yard, the driveway, a corridor for utilities and sewer or septic, and a staging area for deliveries. On a sloping wooded lot the grade matters as much as the trees, so the builder's plan and any township permit are settled before clearing starts. Keeper trees get marked at the outset and their root zones stay untouched.

Agree the finish up front. If construction is a year off, a chip-covered lot holds the ground; if the builder is ready, everything is ground down to ground level. Grading, fill, foundations and build pads are not part of our price; stump removal below grade, if the plan calls for it, is priced in the quote.

A mulched lot is not a foundation pad, whatever a bid may imply.

Smaller Jobs Around the North Hills

North Hills owners often ask for these by name. Each is one of the four methods above, sized to the job; spraying belongs to a licensed applicator and grading to your builder.

Fence Line Clearing

Property lines in the older parts of Gibsonia, West Deer and New Sewickley vanish under rose canes and vines. Grinding the strip back shows the fence and the line again.

Brush Hogging

Grass and soft weeds that have only had a summer or two are a mowing job, and if a tractor and cutter would be cheaper, the quote tells you. Once stems turn woody and thicker than a thumb, it is mulcher work.

Invasive Species Removal

Here that mostly means multiflora rose, with honeysuckle and tree of heaven close behind, all on the state noxious weed list. Our crew does the cutting and grinding; if you want spraying, hire a licensed applicator.

Trail Cutting

Walking trails through a wooded back lot or hillside, routed across the slope along the firmer ground rather than straight down it.

Commercial Clearing

Commercial parcels and multi-lot developments in the growing townships north of the city, scheduled around the grading and erosion approvals already in the site plan.

Property Maintenance

Scheduled visits after the first clearing. Rose regrows from its crowns and from the seed bank, and cutting it back while it is knee high is far cheaper than facing a full thicket in three years.

Tick & Snake Habitat Reduction

Tall brush and leaf litter at the edge of a yard, shed or play set is where ticks and rodents shelter. A broad, easily mowed band between lawn and woods leaves them less of it.

Defensible Space

Opening up the brushy fringe where the woods reach a house or deck, which keeps fuel off the walls and leaves a strip you can maintain with a mower.

Selective View Clearing

Opening a sight line down a hillside or across a valley, with the trees you want kept flagged first and the canopy left wherever you want shade.

Food Plot & Shooting Lane Clearing

Openings and lanes cut into wooded ground in Butler and Beaver counties, leaving the bedding cover in place. We clear; tilling and planting are up to you.

Horse Pasture & Paddock Reclamation

Small pastures and paddocks taken back from rose and brush and returned to grass, without a heap of thorny canes left in the corner.

HOA Compliance & Vacant Lot Clearing

A neglected subdivision lot facing a letter from the HOA or a sale date, cleared back to its lines, with the township consulted first if any grading is planned.

Sell-Ready Lot Cleanup

Clearing a wooded parcel ahead of a listing, so a buyer walking it can picture the house, judge the slope and find the corners.
