Land Clearing Cost in Batesville, AR
Around Batesville, open ground tends to close in with eastern redcedar. In the hills here the soils run thin and cherty over dolomite and limestone, and cedar moves into glade openings, hay fields and pasture edges wherever nothing stops it. That makes price here a question of cedar and rock: how tall and tight the trees have grown, how much stone sits at the surface, and how far the machine has to travel off the county road. The ranges below apply from Sulphur Rock and Cave City to Mountain View, Heber Springs and Newport.
Each written quote names the method, the finish and a single figure. Forestry mulching grinds brush, small trees and stumps into mulch on the spot; stumps finish flush with the ground and no debris leaves the property. Full stump removal below grade and the cut and haul of very large trees are discussed with you and priced in the quote when they are wanted. Grading and house pads are not part of our price: we clear down to the ground so a builder can grade. The quote lists anything not covered, such as a return trip for cedar seedlings, and the figure holds once the machine is working unless you add to the job.
Statewide numbers are in our Arkansas land clearing cost guide. City flood rules, ADEQ and burning are covered in the Batesville and Independence County permit guide, each method on the Batesville services page, and cedar glades and river ground on the Batesville land clearing page.
Ozark Foothills Prices per Acre
Forestry Mulching
$1,500 – $4,000 / acre
Cedar, briar and small hardwoods ground up in place, stumps and all. Knee-high cedar scattered through a level hay field prices low; a closed stand of mature cedar on a cherty slope prices high.
Ozark Cedar Glade Clearing
$1,500 – $2,500 / acre
Eastern redcedar cut back out of glade openings, pasture margins and fence lines, with the oaks and hickories kept. Grassy ground that cedar is just starting to take over usually prices in this row.
Land Clearing
$1,500 – $4,500 / acre
The whole tract brought to the finish your quote describes. A pasture with a few young trees is near the bottom; big hardwood on rocky hillside is near the top. If you want stumps out below grade or very large trees hauled away, that is priced in the quote.
Lot & Homesite Prep
$1,500 – $4,500 / acre equivalent
Room for a house, a driveway and a utility run opened on a town lot or a wooded acre. Inside Batesville, a lot in a mapped flood hazard area needs the city floodplain permit before any clearing; we clear to the ground and your builder grades the pad.
Trailering the mulcher out for a small job costs about what it does for a big one. A cedar-filled yard in Southside and a full day of pasture work near Cave City start from the same trip, so the floor for most projects is close to $1,500. Combining a few small areas in one visit gets the most clearing for that floor.
Cedar, Rock and Road: What Moves a Batesville Price
Cedar age and height
Seedlings a few years old go down almost as fast as the machine travels. A glade or pasture where cedar has had twenty years to close in is a thicket of trunks and low limbs, and each one costs machine time. Height also rules out the cheaper fix: the University of Arkansas does not recommend its soil-applied cedar treatment on trees taller than 12 feet. One thing helps you here: eastern redcedar does not sprout from a stump cut below its lowest green branch, so a cedar mulched at ground level stays gone.
Chert, dolomite and thin soil
The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission describes the White River Hills as cherty dolomite and limestone with thin, rocky soils, and says cedar glades there are more extensive than anywhere else in the state. Rock at the surface wears and snaps mulcher teeth, so the operator eases off around ledges and loose chert, and those slower hours are in the figure. Bluffs, ledges and rock piles are part of what our crew asks about when they call you.
Which finish fits a slope
On a hillside or the edge of a glade, roots left in the ground under a layer of chips usually make the cheaper finish, because thin soil scraped bare washes away and then needs erosion control. Mulching grinds the brush, small trees and stumps on site, stumps flush, nothing hauled. Stump removal below grade is quoted separately when you need it, and the builder does any grading for a pad. Past one acre of disturbance, state stormwater rules apply either way.
County roads, fords and two-tracks
Our crew trailers the mulcher in, and it costs least when it can unload right next to the work. A gravel county road, a creek ford, a steep two-track or a gate too tight for the trailer adds walking time before cutting begins. Independence County keeps a right-of-way 25 feet from the road centerline, which matters if clearing runs along the road frontage.
River ground, permits and burning
Inside Batesville, clearing or grading in a special flood hazard area needs a Floodplain Development Permit first, and the Mayor or a designee acts as floodplain administrator. Statewide, ADEQ stormwater coverage starts at one acre: automatic coverage with a posted notice and an on-site plan from one to under five acres, and a notice of intent at least ten business days ahead from five acres. None of this raises the per-acre rate, though it can move a start date. Burning is set by county burn bans, and a pile of a ton or more needs notice to the Forestry Commission, so mulching in place is usually simpler.
