Land Clearing Services in Colorado Springs & the Pikes Peak Region
Cut Brush offers tracked mulching and clearing across El Paso, Teller and Fremont counties. Nearly every job here comes down to four methods: grinding brush and oak in place, opening a whole parcel, thinning scrub oak and understory beneath the pines you keep, and preparing a lot for the trades that follow. This page covers what each one does. Prices live on the Colorado Springs pricing guide, and the local picture on the Colorado Springs land clearing page.
Forestry Mulching
Our crew runs one tracked machine with a rotary cutting head that grinds standing brush, scrub oak, small trees and stumps into mulch where they grow. Nothing is piled, burned or hauled away. The chips stay on the surface as a layer that holds soil on a slope, and stumps finish flush with the ground.
Near a house the chips themselves become part of the plan: State Forest Service guidance keeps chipped slash 30 feet or more from the home, so close to a deck the layer is spread thin or broken into patches.
Right for scrub oak thickets, brushy acreage, elm sapling stands and fuel reduction where you want the ground opened, not rebuilt. Wrong when you need bare soil to plant into, when the stems are mature trees beyond what a head can take, or when the ground has to end up as a compacted building pad.
Land Clearing
Opening a whole parcel, with the finish named in the scope rather than left to guesswork. Three questions decide what that means on your ground: which trees stay standing, how the stumps are left, and what happens to the material. Two bids for the same acreage can describe two different jobs if those questions go unanswered.
Ground matters here. Around Black Forest the soil is deep, fast-draining sand under scattered ponderosa, and a machine moves across it easily. Steeper, rockier ground toward the mountains is slower, and the route in is worked out before the trailer arrives.
Right for an overgrown acreage you want usable again, a lot that has filled with brush and elm volunteers, or rural ground headed for pasture. Wrong when the canopy is staying and only the floor needs cleaning out, which is thinning at a lower price. Full stump removal below grade and cut-and-haul for very large trees are discussed and priced in the quote. Grading and build pads are not part of our price: we clear to the ground so a builder can grade.
Scrub Oak & Understory Thinning
The scope most forested lots around Monument, Woodmoor, Black Forest and Woodland Park need. Oak clumps, young conifers and brush are taken out from under the pines you keep, which removes the ladder that lets a ground fire climb into the crowns. The keeper trees are marked at the walk-through and left standing.
Scrub oak, the local name for Gambel oak, sprouts back from its roots after it is cut, and CSU Extension names a yearly mow of the sprouts as the alternative to herbicide. So the plan has two parts, the knockdown and the follow-up, and the quote shows both.
Right for fuel reduction near a house, a lot corner gone to oak, or elm volunteers under shade trees. Several small areas booked into one visit price better than the same jobs booked apart.
Lot & Homesite Prep
For ground headed toward a build: a house or outbuilding footprint, the line a driveway will take and the path a well, septic field or utility trench needs. The cutting is the same; what changes is the condition the site is left in for the trades that follow, so the scope says exactly where the clearing stops.
Acreage counts here. City and county stormwater permits start at one acre of disturbance, so knowing the size of the cleared area early keeps a homesite job on the right side of that line or gets the paperwork started in time.
Cleared ground is not finished ground. Where a footing or drive needs the stumps out below grade, that removal is discussed and priced in the quote. Grading, compaction and the pad are not part of our price: we clear to the ground so your builder can grade.
Jobs People Hire Us For Around Colorado Springs
The same four methods, aimed at one outcome on one piece of land.
Fence Line Clearing
Oak sprouts, elm volunteers and brush cut off the wire so a line out past Peyton or Ellicott can be walked and mended again.
Brush Hogging
Mowing a pasture or lot that has gone a season too long, and the soft oak sprouts that come up after a mulching pass, before they turn woody.
Invasive Species Removal
Siberian elm seedlings and sapling thickets, the tree the City pulled by the thousand along Monument Creek. We cut and mulch; any herbicide on the stumps is a licensed applicator's work.
Trail Cutting
Walking and riding routes through oak and pine on acreage around Black Forest, Woodland Park or Florissant, laid across the slope so a trail does not turn into a gully.
Commercial Clearing
Overgrown outparcels, laydown yards and access lanes. Past an acre of disturbance the city or county stormwater permit comes in, so paperwork can set the start date.
Property Maintenance
A repeat visit on ground you want kept open. Scrub oak returns from the root, so a lot opened once and left alone heads back to a thicket.
Tick & Snake Habitat Reduction
Dense brush and oak cut back from a house, barn or paddock, taking away the cover that rodents and the things that hunt them use.
Defensible Space Clearing
Fuel thinned around a house near the forest edge following the State Forest Service zones, with chips kept 30 feet or more from the home. Whether it satisfies a fire district or insurer is for them to decide.
Selective View Clearing
Opening a line of sight toward Pikes Peak or across the plains while the pines that frame it stay marked and standing.
Food Plot & Shooting Lane Clearing
Plots, lanes and access cut on rural acreage in eastern El Paso County or Teller County, placed where a machine can reach them.
Horse Pasture & Paddock Reclamation
Grown-in pasture brought back to grazing ground with stumps cut flush, common on the acreage properties around Black Forest, Peyton and Calhan.
HOA Compliance & Vacant Lot Clearing
A vacant lot cleared to what the covenant letter or a wildfire mitigation rule asks for, with photographs to send to the association.
Sell-Ready Lot Cleanup
An overgrown lot tidied before listing photos, so a buyer can walk the boundary and see the building spot instead of guessing from the road.
