What Cut Brush Does Around Ammon and Idaho Falls

Clearing around Ammon and Idaho Falls usually comes down to one of four jobs: grinding sagebrush and brush with a forestry mulcher, clearing a parcel outright, cutting back sagebrush and the brush along ditches and ponds, or opening a new acreage lot for a house. Each section below says what the machine does, the ground it leaves behind and the jobs it does not suit, and the smaller tasks people ask for by name come after.

Forestry Mulching

A forestry mulcher runs on tracks and carries a spinning cutting head that shreds whatever it is driven into. Sagebrush, rabbitbrush, brush and young trees go through it where they stand; a tree too big for the head is felled first and its top fed through on the ground. What comes out is a layer of chips on the same spot, with no windrow, no pile and no truckload.

You end up with open ground under a mulch layer, stumps flush with the surface and roots still in the soil. On the valley terraces and the lava plains, where gravel or basalt lies within a few feet of the surface, working at the surface is the practical choice, because nothing has to be dug.

It is the wrong tool where a builder needs bare mineral soil under a slab. On saltcedar it brings the stand down but leaves living roots, so the sprouts need a plan of their own.

Land Clearing

Land clearing takes a whole parcel to a finish you choose before we start: which trees stay, where the opening ends and whether the floor should be chips or close to bare soil. Stumps finish flush under the mulch; digging them out below grade, or felling and hauling very large trees, is discussed and priced in the quote, and on terrace gravel or lava-plain basalt that digging is slow going. Our part ends at the surface, and grading is left to your builder.

Good fits include a field corner filled in with volunteer trees, a parcel being readied for new lots and commercial ground on the edge of Idaho Falls. A single sagebrush lot or one ditch bank does not need it; the sagebrush and bank brush rate covers those for less.

Disturbing an acre or more of soil brings in Idaho DEQ's construction stormwater permit, and any work inside an irrigation easement needs the irrigation entity's written permission first. Requirements vary by parcel, scope and jurisdiction, and the governing authority makes the determination.

Sagebrush & Bank Brush Clearing

Two kinds of lighter work share this rate. One is big sagebrush, the native cover on the Bannock and Polatis soils that run through the valley, cut across a lot or along a fence so the ground opens up. The other is brush crowding water: ditch banks, pond edges and the strip beside a canal. Saltcedar, a shrub or small tree up to 24 feet with scaly gray-green leaves and pink flower spikes, is on Idaho's containment list and favors exactly that kind of ground.

Our operator runs the cutting head along the strip, from the field side where the footing allows, and stays clear of each tree you have flagged. Afterward the bank can be seen and walked, and the water reached again.

Saltcedar sprouts again from its roots after cutting, so a licensed applicator's treatment of the fresh stumps, and any later visit for sprouts, appear as separate lines on the quote. If the larger trees on a bank are coming out as well, the job prices as land clearing.

Lot & Homesite Preparation

A new house on an acreage parcel east of Idaho Falls or outside Rigby needs more cleared than its footprint: an approach from the road, a cleared path for power lines, the well and the septic, room for a shop and space for concrete and lumber trucks to turn. We walk the lot first, note any ditch or easement along the way, and ribbon the trees you are keeping before anyone settles where each piece goes.

The build date sets the finish. If the lot waits over winter, a chip layer holds its soil until spring; if the builder starts within weeks, we take it down to the ground. Grading, fill, foundations and pads belong to other trades, and stumps out below grade, where the plan needs them, are priced in the quote.

Smaller Jobs People Call About

Across the Upper Snake River Valley, most people describe the result they want rather than a machine. Every one of them is done with the four methods above, while herbicide is left to a licensed applicator and grading to your builder.

Fence Line Clearing

Sagebrush and brush grown into a wire fence between pastures or along a property line, cut back so the fence can be walked, checked and mended.

Brush Hogging

A field that missed a season or two of mowing is a tractor job and cheaper, and we say so up front. When woody brush or saplings are in it, the mulcher is the right machine.

Invasive Species Removal

Saltcedar first: it is on Idaho's containment list and grows on streambanks, canals and reservoir edges. Our crew cuts and grinds it, and stump treatment stays with a licensed applicator. Russian olive on the same banks is handled the same way.

Trail Cutting

Paths for walking, horses or ATVs across a sagebrush parcel or through a river bottom, laid out to skirt the wettest ground.

Commercial Clearing

Commercial and multi-lot ground around Idaho Falls, Ammon or Rexburg, cleared to the limits drawn on the site plan with the project's stormwater controls in place.

Property Maintenance

Return visits after a bank or lot has been cleared, cutting sprouts while they are small instead of waiting for the ground to need a second full clearing.

Tick & Snake Habitat Reduction

Tall brush pressed against a yard, barn or kennel gives cover to rodents, ticks and snakes. A wide mowable margin around the house and play area removes that cover.

Defensible Space

Sagebrush and brush pushed back from a house, shop or hay barn on an acreage lot, so less dry fuel sits near the walls. Fire rules for your parcel come from your fire district.

Selective View Clearing

A view across the valley opened from a lot on the benches, with each keeper tree flagged before work begins.

Food Plot & Shooting Lane Clearing

Openings and lanes on hunting ground, with the cover around them left alone. We clear to the ground; working and planting the plot is yours.

Horse Pasture & Paddock Reclamation

Sagebrush and brush that have crept into a horse pasture or paddock, ground down to the grass so no piles are left for horses to step around.

HOA Compliance & Vacant Lot Clearing

An overgrown lot in Ammon, Idaho Falls or Rexburg that has drawn a city or association notice, or is about to be sold, cleared to its lines. Bonneville County's nuisance weed ordinance sets a 10-inch limit.

Sell-Ready Lot Cleanup

An acreage lot cleared ahead of listing, so a buyer can picture the house site, see the frontage from the road and walk the property lines.
