What Cut Brush Does Around Metropolis, IL
Fence rows, pasture and crop field margins, deer ground and river bottom woodlots make up most of the clearing on both sides of the Ohio around Metropolis, IL and Paducah, KY. Our crew covers it with four methods: forestry mulching, full land clearing, kudzu and bottomland clearing, and opening a tract for a new house. Each has its own section below, with the ground it suits and where something else is the better choice, followed by the jobs owners call about by name.
Prices are on the Metropolis, IL pricing page, and floodplain, kudzu and burning rules on the Metropolis, IL land clearing page. There is no charge for a quote: request yours here.
Forestry Mulching
A forestry mulcher is a tracked machine carrying a spinning drum fitted with steel teeth. It walks into briar, vines and saplings and reduces them to chips in one pass, so the brush never has to be piled, burned or trucked. Trees too big for the drum are felled first and their tops ground up where they fall.
You are left with a layer of chips, stumps cut level with the soil, and the old root systems still in place. On a creek bank or a field edge that floods, those roots and that chip cover are what keep the soil from washing.
It is the wrong choice when a builder wants bare dirt right away, because the chips have to be moved first, and it cannot be run on bottom ground while it is saturated. On kudzu, grinding the vines leaves the roots alive, so a patch cleared this way is planned with return visits.
Land Clearing
Land clearing takes a whole tract to a result we agree on at the start: the trees that stay, where the cleared ground ends, and whether it finishes under chips or close to bare soil. Your quote is written against that picture. Stumps finish level with the ground under the mulch; taking them out below grade, or cutting and hauling very large trees, is discussed and priced in the quote. Grading comes after us and belongs to your builder.
It is the right tool for a pasture that has gone to saplings, timber being opened for a pond, a shop or a homesite, or commercial ground near Paducah or Calvert City. One fence row or a single kudzu corner does not need it; the kudzu and bottomland rate covers that for less.
On low ground inside the City of Metropolis, contact the city's Planning & Zoning Office before work begins in the flood plain, and Kentucky counties set their own rules. Requirements vary by parcel, scope and jurisdiction, and the governing authority makes the determination.
Kudzu & Bottomland Clearing
This rate is for the narrower, lighter work: kudzu on a fence row or field margin, brush along a creek or slough edge, and the shrub layer under trees you want to keep. Kudzu is a vine with three-part, hairy leaves and fragrant red to purple flowers that can grow up to a foot a day and smother what it climbs, on forest edges, rights-of-way, old homesteads and stream banks.
Our operator works the strip from the firm side, steering around each tree you have ribboned. When the machine leaves, the wire is in sight, a tractor can reach the field edge again, and the trees that were carrying the vines stand clear.
Kudzu sprouts from its roots after cutting, so return visits, and any treatment by a licensed applicator, go on the quote as separate lines. If the large trees along the edge are coming out as well, the job becomes land clearing, and soft growth a mower can handle is cheaper to brush hog.
Lot & Homesite Preparation
A house or shop on a rural tract near Metropolis, IL or Paducah needs more room than its footprint: a drive in from the road, a cleared path for the power line, the well and the septic field, and enough open ground for delivery trucks to back in and out. We walk the tract with the low spots in mind and ribbon every tree you are keeping before the layout is fixed.
Your build date decides how we leave it. If the tract will wait out a wet season, the chips stay to hold the soil; if your builder is starting soon, we take it down to the dirt. Fill, grading, footings and the pad belong to the trades that follow us, and digging a stump out below grade is an item priced in the quote.
Smaller Jobs People Call About
On either bank of the river, you can describe the result you want rather than a machine. Every job below is done with the four methods above, with herbicide left to a licensed applicator and grading to your builder.
Fence Line Clearing
Kudzu, briar and volunteer trees pulled down over the wire between pastures, ground back so the fence can be seen, walked and mended.
Brush Hogging
Grass and weeds in a field skipped for a season or two are a tractor and rotary cutter job, cheaper than mulching, and we will say so. Saplings and woody stems are where the mulcher takes over.
Invasive Species Removal
Kudzu first: it is on Illinois's exotic weed and noxious weed lists. Our crew grinds the vine mat and comes back for the regrowth; any herbicide is a licensed applicator's work.
Trail Cutting
ATV, walking or tractor paths through a woodlot or along a creek, laid out on the higher, firmer ground and away from the lowest sloughs.
Commercial Clearing
Business or multi-lot sites near Metropolis, IL, Paducah or Calvert City, cleared to the lines on the approved plan once any floodplain or stormwater permit is issued.
Property Maintenance
Return trips after a field edge or fence row is opened, taking kudzu runners and sprouts while they are small, before the edge closes up again.
Tick & Snake Habitat Reduction
Brush and vines grown up against a house, barn or equipment shed shelter rodents, ticks and snakes. A wide band you can mow keeps that cover away from the buildings.
Defensible Space
Brush and young trees cut back from a house, shop or barn so less dry fuel stands beside the walls. Any fire rules for the parcel come from your local fire department.
Selective View Clearing
A sight line toward the river, across a bottom field or down the drive, opened after the trees you want kept have been ribboned.
Food Plot & Shooting Lane Clearing
New plot openings and shooting lanes on deer ground, with the cover around them left in place. We clear to the ground; disking and planting are yours.
Horse Pasture & Paddock Reclamation
Briar, brush and saplings creeping in from the edges of a horse pasture, mulched back to the grass so nothing is left in piles.
HOA Compliance & Vacant Lot Clearing
An overgrown lot in Metropolis, Paducah or Mayfield that has drawn a notice from the city, or is going up for sale, cleared back to its lines.
Sell-Ready Lot Cleanup
A rural tract cleared before listing, so a buyer can walk the house site, see the road frontage and find the fence lines.
