Greg did a fantastic job with our land that was overgrown with vines, brush and trees. It took about 1 1/2 days of constant work with the machine to get this 0.6 acres under control. Greg was here at 8am sharp, just as promised. Very professional and reliable. 100% satisfied customer! I highly recommend Cut Brush for land clearing.

Land Clearing & Forestry Mulching on Both Banks of the Lower Ohio

Metropolis, IL sits in Massac County on the Ohio River, across the water from Paducah, KY and about six miles from it. The service area follows the land rather than the state line: most of the towns we cover are on the Kentucky side, in McCracken, Livingston, Marshall and Graves counties, from Paducah, Hendron and Reidland out to Calvert City, Benton, KY and Mayfield. On the Illinois side it runs from Metropolis to Vienna in Johnson County and Cairo in Alexander County.

The work here is mostly rural: pasture and crop field edges, fence rows, hunting ground and woodlots, with bottomland along the river. Most of it starts with forestry mulching, which grinds the growth in place and leaves the chips on the ground; whole tracts, vine-covered edges and house sites call for land clearing, kudzu and bottomland clearing or lot and homesite prep.

On low ground, the calendar decides more than the acreage does. Request a free quote; we'll contact you to discuss your property, access and the clearing you need.

Sound Familiar?

  • Kudzu climbing out of a fence row and over the trees along a field
  • A food plot or shooting lane lost to saplings and briar
  • Bottom ground that stays too wet to work until summer
  • A brush pile you are not allowed to burn during fire season

Cut Brush Delivers

  • The vine mat mulched down and the regrowth cut on planned return visits
  • The opening cleared again, with the cover around it left standing
  • Work booked for firm ground, so the field is not rutted
  • Everything ground in place, so there is no pile to burn or haul

Why Lower Ohio Valley Landowners Choose Cut Brush

Within 15 miles of Metropolis, about a fifth of the land is deciduous forest and nearly a tenth is wooded wetland, mixed with pasture and crop ground. Kudzu has been recorded in Massac County, and its vines need repeated control after the first clearing.

  • Built for wet ground. A tracked mulcher spreads its weight, and river bottom work is booked for when the ground is firm. Any strip too wet or steep to work safely is left out of the quote, and you hear that before work starts.
  • Nothing left to burn. Kentucky bars burning within 150 feet of woods or brush in daytime through two hazard seasons each year, and Illinois towns can set their own limits. Mulched growth stays on the ground as chips.
  • Prices you can read first. The Metropolis, IL pricing page lists a per-acre band for each kind of work, and the quote puts the clearing and any return visit on separate lines.
  • What the price covers. Forestry mulching grinds brush, small trees and stumps into mulch on site, leaves stumps flush and hauls nothing away. Full stump removal below grade and cutting and hauling very large trees are discussed and priced in the quote; grading and build pads are not part of our price.

Planning bottomland work? The Metropolis forestry mulching cost guide covers timing and how river ground is priced, the Illinois kudzu removal guide sets out the seasons of follow-up the vine needs, and the Illinois land clearing cost guide covers the whole state, and the Kentucky land clearing cost guide covers the Kentucky side.

What to Know Before Clearing Land Around Metropolis, IL

Floodplain lots in the city. Parts of the city are in a flood plain, where special flood regulations and building codes apply, so contact the city's Planning & Zoning Office before beginning any work. On a low lot, ask that office before stumps are pulled or the grade is changed.

Kudzu is a listed weed in Illinois. It is on the state's exotic weed list, which makes it unlawful to sell or plant without an IDNR permit, and on the noxious weed list, and the Noxious Weed Law tells every person to control the spread of noxious weeds on land they own or control.

Two states, two sets of rules. In Illinois, local burning ordinances can be stricter than state law, which does not override them. In Kentucky, burning within 150 feet of woodland or brushland is barred from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. from 15 February to 30 April and from 1 October to 15 December, and counties and fire departments may add limits. Requirements vary by parcel, scope and jurisdiction, and the governing authority makes the determination.

Metropolis, IL Land Clearing FAQ

It depends on the parcel and the work. Parts of the City of Metropolis are in a flood plain, where special flood regulations apply, so contact the city's Planning & Zoning Office before beginning any work there. In Kentucky, ask the county. Requirements vary by parcel, scope and jurisdiction, and the governing authority makes the determination.
Most work runs $1,500 to $4,500 an acre on both sides of the river. A fence row sits low in that range; heavy bottomland timber cleared to the soil sits near the top. Small jobs start at a minimum charge of about $1,500, which is a floor for small work and not a fee added to the acre rate. The bands are on the Metropolis, IL pricing page, and the Metropolis forestry mulching cost guide explains how river ground and timing affect a quote.
Yes. Ten of the thirteen towns we list are in Kentucky, from Paducah, Reidland and Massac, KY in McCracken County to Calvert City, Benton, KY and Mayfield. The bands are the same, and Kentucky's own burning seasons and county rules apply there, not Illinois's.
Our crew mulches the vine mat, then returns to cut the regrowth over several seasons, because the roots hold reserves; any herbicide is a licensed applicator's work. The Illinois kudzu removal guide lays out the visits.
In Illinois: Metropolis in Massac County, Vienna in Johnson County and Cairo in Alexander County. In Kentucky: Paducah, Massac, KY, Hendron, Farley and Reidland in McCracken County; Ledbetter and Salem, KY in Livingston County; Calvert City and Benton, KY in Marshall County; and Mayfield in Graves County.
