Land Clearing Services in Grand Rapids & West Michigan

Cut Brush works tracked mulching and clearing equipment through Kent, Ottawa, Allegan, Barry, Ionia and Montcalm counties. However a job gets described on the phone, it lands in one of four buckets: brush chipped where it grew, a parcel opened boundary to boundary, a reverted field or understory pulled back to walkable ground, or a site made ready for the builder. Capability is the subject below, not price. Dollar figures live on the Grand Rapids pricing guide, and the wider market on the Grand Rapids land clearing page.

Land Clearing

Taking a parcel boundary to boundary. What that costs around Grand Rapids turns on three details, all of which belong in writing before anyone quotes: how many stems stay standing, what happens to the stumps, and where cut material ends up. Vague answers are why two bidders can walk the same field and return numbers that do not resemble each other.

West Michigan adds a question a subdivision lot never faces: how far the parcel sits from the nearest lake, stream or river. Part 91 pulls in a permit inside 500 feet of water on its own, no acreage involved, so near the Grand, Thornapple, Rogue or Flat that measurement happens before any cutting starts.

The right call for a reverted field headed toward a homesite, for old pasture that has to graze again, or for wooded ground going back to open field. The wrong call when the trees are staying and everything needed happens at ground level, which is understory clearing and prices below this. The permit guide has the thresholds that govern the paperwork across Kent County.

Forestry Mulching

A rotary head on a tracked carrier, reducing standing brush and small trees to chip where they grew. No burn pile, no loaded truck, and the material never leaves the parcel; it settles onto the surface as a chip layer. Stumps finish flush rather than excavated, leaving the root system intact below grade.

Which is the right finish for ground determined to grow back. Autumn olive and glossy buckthorn both return from a cut stump, and a reverted field carries a seed bank in its sandy soil besides, so a thicket taken down in one visit is a first pass with the maintenance visit already scheduled. Chipping on site also retires the disposal question where an open burn would mean clearing it with the local fire authority first.

Reach for it on reverted-field understory, on autumn olive and glossy buckthorn regrowth where the goal is opening ground rather than rebuilding it, and where the haul-off bill would exceed the clearing bill. Leave it alone when the plan needs bare planting soil, when stems have outgrown a head, or when the site must finish compacted enough to build on.

Brush, Regrowth & Understory Clearing

Our smallest scope, and more often than not the one a West Michigan property wants. It handles the floor under trees that are staying, a field edge ten years into creeping inward, a fence line lost to scrub, and the back corner autumn olive or glossy buckthorn has taken. Kept trees are untouched. The ground under them becomes walkable.

Several combined into one visit price better than the same list booked piecemeal.

The limit to be plain about: autumn olive and glossy buckthorn both come back. Each resprouts from a cut stump, splitting the work into a knockdown and a follow-up, and the seed bank in sandy soil can push new seedlings up after every standing stem is gone. Which a parcel needs is decided at the walk-through, and holding opened ground costs far less than reopening a closed thicket.

Lot & Homesite Prep

For a site with a build ahead of it: the pad for a house or outbuilding, the route a driveway will follow, the corridor a well line, septic field or utility trench has to run. What we contribute is stripping standing vegetation off a wooded or reverted parcel until the builder can read the ground. Foundation excavation, finish grading and structural work stay with the licensed trades that perform them; Cut Brush does not offer that work.

Water is the local complication. Part 91 requires a permit inside 500 feet of a lake or stream regardless of acreage, so a homesite anywhere near the Grand, Thornapple, Rogue or Flat should expect that question settled up front instead of discovered partway through.

One thing to say plainly: cleared ground and finished ground are different things. A root mass under a flush-cut stump contributes nothing toward carrying a footing, so grading and compaction remain a separate priced step performed by the trades that specialize in it, never folded into a clearing number.

Jobs People Hire Us For Around West Michigan

Four methods, pointed at one result on one specific property.

Fence Line Clearing

Brush and volunteer growth off the wire so a line can be walked and repaired. Out past Middleville and Dorr, autumn olive runners from an old planting are the usual culprit.

Brush Hogging

A mower deck handles a pasture or lot while its growth is still soft: grass, first-year regrowth, a field one season past its last cut. Once autumn olive or glossy buckthorn thickens into woody stems, mowing stalls out and a mulching head takes over.

Invasive Species Removal

Reverted West Michigan fields are dominated by two shrubs, autumn olive and glossy buckthorn, and both push back after the first cut. The standing growth comes down in the initial visit; a follow-up on the resprout is part of the plan rather than an extra call.

Trail Cutting

Footpaths, bridle trails and ATV routes get cut through reverted field edges and river-corridor woodlots alike. Near the Grand, Thornapple, Rogue or Flat rivers, the water-proximity question gets checked before the first foot of trail is opened, since the 500-foot rule can apply regardless of acreage.

Commercial Clearing

Pads, outparcels, laydown areas and access lanes get opened to the grade a site plan calls for. Crossing an acre of disturbance, or sitting within 500 feet of water, brings Part 91 into the schedule, so the permit sequence can decide the start date as much as the work itself does.

Property Maintenance

Ground opened once and left alone does not stay open here. Both autumn olive and glossy buckthorn push back fast enough that a field cleared and forgotten for five years is most of the way back to where it started, which is what makes a repeat pass worth booking.

Tick & Snake Habitat Reduction

Dense brush and heavy leaf litter near a house, barn or paddock give rodents and ticks the cover they use, so thinning it out takes that cover away. In the old farm towns, the pattern we see most is a closed buckthorn understory pressed right up against a lawn edge.

Defensible Space Clearing

Fuel and brush reduction around a structure, opening the ground between a building and dense growth. What counts as sufficient for a specific insurer or authority is for that authority to determine, not a promise we make.

Selective View Clearing

Opening a sightline toward a river corridor or open farmland while the trees that frame it stay marked and standing. We walk the property with you before anything is cut.

Food Plot & Shooting Lane Clearing

Hunting ground through Barry, Ionia and Montcalm counties needs plots, lanes and the access to reach them cut in together. Whether equipment can get to the plot matters more than the plot’s size, so a hard-to-approach parcel costs more than its acreage alone suggests.

Horse Pasture & Paddock Reclamation

Grown-in pasture and paddock brought back to grazeable ground, stumps cut flush rather than left to catch a hoof. Common out through Ottawa and Allegan counties, where reverted pasture is the usual starting point.

HOA Compliance & Vacant Lot Clearing

A vacant lot in a Kent or Ottawa County subdivision worked back to whatever standard the citation letter sets, with photographs supplied so you can close the file with the association or the township.

Sell-Ready Lot Cleanup

An overgrown lot made presentable before listing photographs and showings, so a buyer can walk the boundary rather than squint at it from the road.
