Land Clearing Cost in Amory, MS

Land around Amory tends to come back to us as one of two problems: an upland field that sat idle until wild pear closed it in, or a wooded bottom near the river that only firms up for part of the year. Across Monroe County the work runs $1,500 to $4,500 an acre, and the smallest jobs start at a minimum charge of about $1,500. Your price depends on which one you have, how many years the growth has had, and whether the ground will carry a machine in the weeks you pick. The ranges below are for budgeting.

Everything goes on one written price for the agreed finish, and each return cut for pear suckers is a separate line you can take or drop. That price is for forestry mulching: brush, small trees and stumps ground into mulch on site, stumps flush with the ground and nothing hauled away. Taking stumps out below grade, or cutting and hauling very large trees, is talked through and priced in the quote. Grading and build pads are not part of our price; we clear to the ground so a builder can grade. Any spraying is a licensed applicator's work.

Amory Rates by Type of Work

Forestry Mulching

$1,500 – $4,000 / acre

Standing brush and small trees ground where they grow. A field with a few years of saplings on firm upland sits near $1,500; a thick stand of older stems, or a wooded bottom that stays soft, works up toward $4,000.

Callery Pear & Fence Row Clearing

$1,500 – $2,500 / acre

Wild pear saplings, brush and small trees cut out of an old field, a fence line or the space under trees you keep. A long, thin fence line is counted by its acreage equivalent.

Land Clearing

$1,500 – $4,500 / acre

Opening an entire tract to the finish your quote sets out. An idle pasture with scattered young trees is the low end; a closed stand of timber ground down to the soil is the high end. Stumps finish flush, and taking them out below grade is a quoted extra.

Lot & Homesite Prep

$1,500 – $4,500 / acre equivalent

The house spot, drive and utility paths opened on a rural tract, with any low ground near the river marked before the first cut. We stop at the surface: grading and the pad belong to your builder.

The minimum charge is about $1,500 per job. One fence line near Nettleton or a backyard thicket in Smithville takes the same haul and setup as a full day, so a job that small is billed at the minimum and nothing is added to it; above that, the acre bands set the price. Every field edge and fence line done on the same trip spreads that minimum further.

What Moves an Amory Quote

Upland or bottom, and the month you book

Flood plain soils along the Tombigbee flood occasionally or frequently and stay wet below 18 to 36 inches through winter and early spring in normal years. A tracked machine on that ground slows and leaves ruts. Late summer and fall are when bottom work goes quickest; upland pasture can often be done earlier. A start date with a few weeks of give is worth more than a discount.

How long the field has sat idle

A pasture let go for two or three seasons has whips a mulcher clears in one quick pass. One idle for fifteen years can be a closed thicket of wild pear with trunks as thick as a leg and thorns on the young growth. Stem count and size drive most of the price.

Whether follow-up visits are needed

Callery pear sends up root suckers after it is cut, so a pear field rarely ends with one visit. Each return cut is listed as its own line, priced from the same band, so you can see what the first pass costs and what keeping it open costs.

Fence, wire and what stays standing

Old wire buried in a fence line slows the cutting head, and a fence you are keeping means slower work beside it. Every tree flagged to keep is another point the operator steers around. A clean sweep of a field costs less per acre than a careful edit.

Getting the machine to the work

A field road or open gate lets the trailer park beside the job, so the hours go into cutting. A narrow gate, a soft creek crossing or work split across several fields adds time. The route a truck and trailer would take to the work is one of our first questions on the call.

Amory Pricing Questions

Plan on $1,500 to $4,500 an acre for most jobs. Young pear and brush cut from an old field or fence line lands toward the low figure; mulching a closed stand to the ground lands toward the high one. A single acre can land low or high in its band, set by the growth and how firm the bottom is. The $1,500 minimum is the floor for a small job, not what a typical acre costs.
Not by the acre. Saplings and younger pear fall in the $1,500 to $2,500 pear and fence row band; an older, closed thicket with thick trunks moves into the forestry mulching band. What adds cost is the regrowth, because the plan includes return visits. Our Mississippi Bradford pear removal guide explains each visit and what it costs.
Multiply the quoted day rate by the estimated number of days, then add any trailer charge. Divide that dollar total by the acres included to compare it with a per-acre quote for the same finish. A day rate pays for machine time; our price covers the agreed finish. The Amory forestry mulching cost guide walks through the comparison.
Mostly they change where, when and how we work, not the rate. Ask Amory's Planning and Zoning office inside the city, or the Monroe County Board of Supervisors outside it, before the quote. Requirements vary by parcel, scope and jurisdiction, and the governing authority makes the determination. Soils, pear and the permit offices are covered on the Amory land clearing page.
