What Cut Brush Does Around Plattsmouth

The land around Plattsmouth is bluff pasture, wooded draws, river bottom and acreages on the loess, and the tree taking most of it over is eastern redcedar. Our crew does four kinds of work on this ground: forestry mulching, full land clearing, young cedar and brush clearing, and opening an acreage for a house. Each is laid out below with where it earns its price and where another method is the better buy, followed by the jobs callers name.

Prices are on the Plattsmouth pricing page; bluffs, permits and towns are on the Plattsmouth land clearing page. Quotes cost nothing: request yours here.

Forestry Mulching

A forestry mulcher is a tracked machine carrying a rotor lined with steel teeth. Our crew walks it up to each cedar and the tree comes down as chips, trunk and branches together. Smaller trees are ground where they stand; bigger ones are dropped first and their crowns ground on the spot. The wood ends up spread over the soil, with nothing stacked for a fire.

You are left with open ground under a layer of chips, stumps at ground level and the root mat undisturbed. On a loess bluff that matters: the roots keep holding the slope, and the chips soften the rain until grass fills back in. Because cedar cut below its lowest branches does not regrow, a mulched tree is a finished tree.

Its limits: the chips are in a builder's way if bare dirt is needed, the steepest sides may be beyond what the machine can work safely, and it does nothing about seed already on the ground, so new cedar seedlings still need a check in later years.

Land Clearing

We price land clearing from the picture you give us of the finished ground: the windbreak that stays, where the pasture should end, how open the draw should be. Stumps are ground flush with the soil; taking them out below grade, or felling and hauling very large trees, is discussed and priced in the quote. The soil surface is where our work stops, and grading belongs to your builder. One place might need a pasture won back from cedar, a draw thinned and a building spot mulched down to the dirt.

It suits an acreage that has closed in, a bluff pasture gone to woodland or a river bottom with old timber. A fence row or a scatter of young cedar does not call for it; the young cedar rate handles that for less. Trunk size, the grade and the drive between patches decide the hours.

Nebraska's construction stormwater permit applies at an acre of disturbance or more, and low ground along the Platte and Missouri is often mapped floodplain with its own city or county permit. Requirements vary by parcel, scope and jurisdiction, and the governing authority makes the determination.

Young Cedar & Brush Clearing

Cedar on a pasture is cheapest to deal with while it is small. Female trees start bearing berries in their sixth or seventh year, and birds carry the seed to every fence post and tree row nearby, so a few scattered trees become a stand. The goal of this work is to catch them before that.

The mulcher takes out cedar mostly under head height, brush in the fence rows and saplings along shelterbelt edges, and works around the windbreak trees and shade trees you flag. The pasture is left open, the wire is visible again and the trees you meant to keep still stand.

Larger trees in a closed stand belong in the forestry mulching band, and grass and weeds with nothing woody are cheaper to mow. Plan on a seedling check every few years; it is small work if it is done before the next crop of cedar starts bearing.

Lot & Homesite Preparation

A house on an acreage near Plattsmouth needs room for itself and a yard, a drive from the road, a path for power, water and septic, and somewhere for the concrete truck to turn. On bluff ground the slope and any low floodplain corner shape the layout as much as the trees, so we look at both before the house spot is fixed and flag the trees that stay.

Pick the finish by the build date. Ground that will sit a season or more keeps its loess under chips; ground the builder will be on next month is mulched right down. Grading, fill, foundations and build pads are outside our work, and stumps out below grade, where the plan needs it, are priced in the quote.

A cleared homesite and a finished pad are two jobs; make sure any bid says which one it covers.

Jobs People Ask For by Name

Around Cass County the work usually gets called by what it is for. Each of these uses the methods above; herbicide is a licensed applicator's work, and grading is for your builder.

Fence Line Clearing

Fence rows on Cass County pastures fill with young cedar and brush until the wire disappears. Grinding a row back to the posts lets you see the wire again, walk it and fix it.

Brush Hogging

A hay meadow or pasture with soft weeds and nothing woody is tractor and rotary cutter work, and the quote says so when that is the cheaper choice. Once cedar and saplings are in it, the mulcher takes over.

Invasive Species Removal

Here it mostly means eastern redcedar, a problematic native that has spread from the bluffs into pastures. Cut below its lowest branches it does not regrow, so no spray is needed; any herbicide on other plants is a licensed applicator's work.

Trail Cutting

Walking, hunting or ATV trails through cedar draws and bluff timber, run along the contour where the loess is gentlest and kept out of the soft bottoms.

Commercial Clearing

Business and development ground from Bellevue and Papillion to Plattsmouth, cleared to the site plan, with the stormwater permit and floodplain paperwork the project already holds kept in view.

Property Maintenance

A return trip a few seasons after the main clearing to take out the new cedar seedlings while they are small, which costs a fraction of letting a second stand grow.

Tick & Snake Habitat Reduction

Tall brush and cedar right up against the house, barn or play yard give ticks and rodents cover. A broad strip mulched back to grass you can mow leaves them less of it.

Defensible Space

Cedar and brush that have crept up to a home or outbuilding on an acreage pushed back, leaving less fuel close to the walls and a clean edge that is easy to keep mowed.

Selective View Clearing

Opening a sight line from a bluff-top house toward the Missouri or across the valley, with every tree you want kept flagged before the machine moves.

Food Plot & Shooting Lane Clearing

Plots and lanes cut into cedar and timber on hunting ground in the draws, with the cover you want left standing. We clear the ground; working and seeding it are yours.

Horse Pasture & Paddock Reclamation

A paddock or pasture losing grass to cedar opened back up, with the trees ground in place so nothing is left in a pile at the fence. Once cedar takes over, rangeland loses about 75 percent of its production.

HOA Compliance & Vacant Lot Clearing

A grown-over lot around Beaver Lake, Buccaneer Bay or Gretna with a letter from the association or the city, or a sale coming up, cut back to its lines.

Sell-Ready Lot Cleanup

An acreage cleared of cedar and brush before it is listed, so buyers can stand on the house site, see the view and follow the fence lines.
