What Cut Brush Does Around Eagle Point

Land around Eagle Point runs from flat valley pasture and rural lots to brushy hillsides, and the growth that takes it over is mostly blackberry, brush and young trees. Four methods cover almost every job our crew takes on in the Rogue Valley: forestry mulching, full land clearing, blackberry and brush clearing, and getting a lot ready for a house. Each is explained below, where it fits and where it does not, followed by the jobs people call about by name.

Forestry Mulching

A forestry mulcher pairs a tracked carrier with a fast-turning drum of teeth. Our crew feeds blackberry mounds, brush and saplings into that drum, and what was standing becomes a carpet of shredded wood on the spot. Stems up to roughly eight inches go down where they stand, while bigger trees are dropped and their crowns chewed up on the ground. With no pile, there is nothing to burn and nothing to load.

The finish is ground you can walk and mow, a mulch cover that slows erosion on a slope, and stumps cut flush, with the roots left in to bind the soil. In the Rogue Valley that finish has a second benefit: burning clearing debris inside the Rogue Basin control area takes a DEQ letter permit, and a mulched acre has no debris to burn.

Where it falls short: a builder pouring a slab wants bare soil, not mulch, and the drum leaves blackberry crowns and tree of heaven roots alive, so new shoots follow unless someone deals with them.

Land Clearing

A land clearing job starts from the picture you have of the finished property: which trees stay, where the clearing ends and how open it should be. We quote that picture. Stumps are ground flush under the mulch; digging them out below grade, or felling and hauling off very large trees, is discussed and priced in the quote. The ground surface is where our work ends, so grading is your builder's. On one property that might mean a pasture won back from blackberry, a thinned hillside and a building spot mulched to the soil.

It suits a brushy parcel about to become a homesite, a pasture going back into use and commercial ground around White City or Medford. For a single overgrown fence line, the lower brush rate fits better. Stem size, slope and wet ground set how long it takes.

Once clearing, grading or excavation disturbs an acre or more, DEQ's 1200-C stormwater permit applies. Wooded land being turned into pasture or a homesite can also need notice to the State Forester. Requirements vary by parcel, scope and jurisdiction, and the governing authority makes the determination.

Blackberry & Brush Clearing

Armenian blackberry is widespread in Jackson County. It is the plant behind most overgrown fence lines and pasture edges here: the canes arch over and pile up into a mound that a person cannot push through.

The mulcher works the length of the thicket, taking canes, brush and saplings down to the ground while the operator leaves a margin around each flagged tree. Afterwards you can see the wire again, run a mower along the edge and walk beneath the trees you chose to save.

Plan the second round now. Blackberry sends up new canes from the crowns, so return cuts, or a treatment by a licensed applicator, appear in the quote as separate lines. Where the trees along the fence are going too, the job is land clearing; where the growth is only soft and shin high, a mower costs less.

Lot & Homesite Preparation

A buildable rural lot needs room for the house and yard, a driveway in from the road, a path for power, water and the septic system, and space for trucks to turn and unload. North of Medford, the hollows that fill with water each winter decide where those pieces fit as much as the trees do, so we locate them early, before anyone stakes the house, and put a ribbon on every tree that stays.

Pick the finish to match the build date. A lot that waits a year is better off under mulch, which keeps the soil from washing; a lot the builder starts next month is taken down to bare ground. Grading, fill, foundations and pads are outside our work, and if the plans call for stumps removed below grade, the quote prices it.

Jobs People Ask For by Name

Callers around Eagle Point often name the job rather than the method. Every one of these is built from the four methods above, with herbicide left to a licensed applicator and grading to your builder.

Fence Line Clearing

Blackberry loves a fence. Canes climb the wire and spill over both sides until the line is a hedge you cannot see through. Grinding it back to the posts gives you a fence you can walk, check and mend.

Brush Hogging

A pasture that has only sat a season or two is usually grass and soft weeds, and a tractor with a rotary cutter handles that more cheaply; we will tell you so. When woody canes and saplings have moved in, the mulcher takes over.

Invasive Species Removal

Here that usually means Armenian blackberry, widespread in Jackson County, and tree of heaven. We do the cutting and grinding; any herbicide is a licensed applicator's work, scheduled around ours.

Trail Cutting

Walking, riding or ATV trails through a brushy back acre or a wooded hillside, kept to firm ground and routed around the low spots that hold water in winter.

Commercial Clearing

Commercial parcels and multi-lot projects around White City, Central Point or Medford, cleared to the lines on the approved site plan and in step with the project's stormwater permit.

Property Maintenance

Return visits booked after the first clearing. New blackberry canes and tree of heaven suckers are cheap to knock down at a foot tall and expensive once they are a thicket again.

Tick & Snake Habitat Reduction

Tall brush and blackberry crowding a house, barn or play area give ticks and rodents cover. A wide band cut back to ground you can mow takes that cover away.

Defensible Space

Brush and low growth cleared back from a home or outbuilding, so there is less dry fuel near the walls in a Rogue Valley summer. Your city or county sets any defensible space rule that applies.

Selective View Clearing

Opening a view across the valley, toward the river or down a drive, with the trees you want kept marked first.

Food Plot & Shooting Lane Clearing

Openings and lanes cut on hunting or rural ground, with the cover that holds game left standing. Our part ends at cleared ground; working the soil and planting are up to you.

Horse Pasture & Paddock Reclamation

Grazing ground that blackberry has crept into from the fence line, won back for the horses, with every cane ground into the surface instead of stacked in a heap.

HOA Compliance & Vacant Lot Clearing

An empty lot in Eagle Point, Central Point or Phoenix with a notice from the HOA or the city, or a sale pending, cut back to its boundaries.

Sell-Ready Lot Cleanup

Brush taken off a lot or acreage before it is listed, so buyers can stand on the likely house spot, see the road frontage and find the corner pins.
