What Cut Brush Does Around Lincoln City

Around Lincoln City the ground ranges from beach-town lots overtaken by Scotch broom and blackberry to Coast Range parcels where alder and fir have pushed up through the brush. Four kinds of work cover almost all of it: forestry mulching, full land clearing to a finish you choose, broom and blackberry clearing that leaves your trees in place, and site preparation for a new home. The sections below say what each one does, when it is the wrong tool, and which smaller jobs grow out of it.

Prices sit on the Lincoln City pricing guide, permits and local ground are covered on the Lincoln City land clearing page, and a quote costs nothing through our quote form.

Forestry Mulching

The machine is a tracked carrier with a toothed drum on the front that spins fast enough to shred whatever it is pushed into. Broom, blackberry canes, brush and saplings go in standing and come out as wood chips lying where they grew. Trunks too thick to feed are dropped first and their tops ground on the spot. No pile is made, so nothing is burned or carried off.

What remains is walkable ground under a layer of chips, stumps level with the surface, and soil that stays put through the next run of winter storms. Oregon State University Extension advises chipping broom or composting it in place, and a mulching pass does exactly that across a whole acre. It also avoids the burn question near town: within three miles of Lincoln City or Newport, burning clearing debris needs a DEQ letter permit.

It is the wrong choice if a builder wants bare dirt with no chips, and it does nothing about broom seed already in the soil, so the ground needs another look once seedlings come up.

Land Clearing

Land clearing is priced backwards from what you want the parcel to look like at the end: which trees remain, where the edge of the cleared ground falls, and what condition it is left in. Mulching grinds brush, small trees and stumps on site, stumps flush and nothing hauled away; full stump removal below grade and cut-and-haul for very large trees are discussed and priced in the quote. A single parcel might get a mulched border, young alder dropped and ground, and a working area taken to ground level.

It fits a brushy acreage becoming a homesite, a neglected pasture going back to grass, or a commercial site in Lincoln City, Newport or Toledo. One fence row or one patch of broom is cheaper done as the narrower clearing described next. Machine hours follow the growth, the slope, how wet the soil is and the distance from the road to the work.

Inside Lincoln City, tree removal is regulated by the city and has its own permit application; outside the city, ask Lincoln County. If the land is forest being turned to another use, the Oregon Department of Forestry wants notice first. Disturbing an acre or more of soil brings in DEQ's 1200-C stormwater permit. Requirements vary by parcel, scope and jurisdiction, and the governing authority makes the determination.

Broom & Blackberry Clearing

Lincoln County lists Scotch broom, French broom, gorse and blackberry among its noxious weeds, and the Oregon Department of Agriculture calls Scotch broom one of western Oregon's most widespread and costliest weeds. On a coast lot or pasture they are what closes the open ground: broom up to head height, and blackberry canes over the fence and anything else left standing.

Our crew runs the mulching head through the broom, canes and brush and steers around every tree you have marked. When it is done, the fence line shows again, the field can be walked and the grass has light. With broom the calendar matters: a cut in the dry summer months, or before the seed pods ripen, stops this year's seed from landing.

Plan a second step. Broom seed lasts ten years or more in the soil and blackberry sprouts back from its crowns, so a check the following season, with spot work on anything green, keeps the ground open. Where the bigger trees need to go as well, the job becomes land clearing; plain grass is a mowing job.

Lot & Homesite Preparation

Preparing a homesite means opening four things: room for the house and yard, a driveway from the road, routes for power, water and a sewer or septic line, and a staging area for deliveries. On a sloping coast lot, drainage and the view shape the plan as much as the brush, so walk the lot, decide which trees are worth keeping, and only then fix the house spot. Check with the city or county about your scope before anything is cut.

Agree on the finish up front. If construction is a year off, a lot left under chips stays covered through the wet season; if the builder is ready, the growth comes down to ground level for the next step.

Grading and build pads are not part of our price: we clear to the ground so your builder can grade.

Smaller Jobs Built From the Same Work

Landowners on the central coast often ask for the work by one of these names. Each one uses the methods described above.

Fence Line Clearing

Blackberry will bury a pasture fence in the Siletz or Grand Ronde valleys within a few seasons, and broom fills in behind it. A mulched strip along the line puts the wire and posts back where you can mend or move them.

Brush Hogging

If a field or lot holds only grass and soft weeds, a tractor and rotary cutter does it for less, and our quote will tell you so. Broom stems and blackberry crowns are woody work for the mulcher.

Invasive Species Removal

On this stretch of coast that usually means Scotch broom and blackberry, both on Lincoln County's noxious weed list. Our crew cuts and grinds the stands; a seedling check, and any herbicide from your licensed applicator, keeps them down.

Trail Cutting

Footpaths and four-wheeler routes cut through brush and young timber on Coast Range ground, routed along gentler grades and away from the soggiest spots.

Commercial Clearing

Business sites and multi-lot projects in Lincoln City, Newport or Toledo, scheduled around the city office and the DEQ 1200-C stormwater permit that applies once an acre or more of soil is disturbed.

Property Maintenance

A return trip booked a season or two after the first clearing. New broom keeps sprouting from seed on opened ground, and mulching a carpet of seedlings costs far less than clearing a grown stand twice.

Tick & Snake Habitat Reduction

Thick brush right up against a house, cabin or shed is shelter for rodents and the animals that follow them. Clearing a broad band around the buildings removes it.

Defensible Space

Broom and brush thinned back from the walls of a house or cabin, so less fuel stands next to it. Mulching it leaves no burn pile to permit.

Selective View Clearing

A sight line opened from a hillside lot toward the ocean, Devils Lake or Siletz Bay, with every tree you mean to keep marked first. Inside Lincoln City, check the city tree rules before anything is cut.

Food Plot & Shooting Lane Clearing

Openings and lanes on Coast Range hunting or recreation land, leaving cover wherever you ask. We clear the ground; tilling and planting are up to you.

Horse Pasture & Paddock Reclamation

Paddocks lost to broom and blackberry opened back up toward grass, without a brush pile left in the field.

HOA Compliance & Vacant Lot Clearing

A lot in Lincoln City, Lincoln Beach or Depoe Bay with a compliance letter or a sale date, cleared to the property line once the city or county has been asked about trees and permits.

Sell-Ready Lot Cleanup

A second-home lot or acreage opened before listing, so buyers can see the house spot, the road in and the view.
