What Cut Brush Does Around Beaumont

Most wooded ground around Beaumont is flat, wet in places and layered: pine and upland oak on the low ridges, water oak, blackgum and sweetgum in the swales, and holly, wax myrtle and yaupon filling in beneath. Cut Brush offers four kinds of work on that ground: mulching brush and small trees in place, clearing whole parcels to a written finish, removing the understory from under a canopy you keep, and opening wooded lots for a house. Each is described below with what it leaves behind and when another approach suits better.

Price ranges are on the Beaumont pricing guide, and the flatwoods, permit offices and storm timber are covered on the Beaumont land clearing page. Quotes are free to request through the quote form; we first confirm whether we can take the job.

Forestry Mulching

The mulcher is a tracked carrier with a spinning drum of steel teeth on the front. It walks into the brush and reduces yaupon, wax myrtle, tallow saplings, young pine and small hardwoods to chips right where they stood. Stems up to roughly eight inches feed straight into the head; anything larger is felled first and its top ground on site. Nothing is piled for burning and nothing has to leave on a truck.

The result is open ground under a mat of chips, with stumps cut at the surface. On flat, fine textured flatwoods soil that mat matters: it covers bare dirt that would otherwise wash toward the nearest ditch in the next downpour, and the tracks spread the machine's weight more evenly than tires. Because there is no fire, a county burn ban does not stop the job.

It is the wrong tool when a builder needs bare, compactable soil, and grinding the top growth does not treat what sprouts back afterwards, so ground with Chinese tallow on it needs a follow-up plan. A swale under standing water also waits for a dry spell, mulcher or not.

Land Clearing

Full clearing is priced on the finished state, so the finish is agreed in writing first: stumps extracted or cut flush, material ground on site or hauled, ground shaped or left as it lies. A single tract can need different answers in different places, such as a mulched buffer along a bayou, a thinned pine stand and a building area taken down to soil.

This is the scope for acreage being divided into homesites, storm-damaged timber that has to come out, and commercial or industrial ground around Beaumont, Port Arthur and Orange. A brushy fence row or a shaded lot that only needs its understory opened does not need it; selective clearing costs less. Time on site depends on how much of the tract is hardwood swale, how many trees are broken or leaning, and how quickly the low ground dries.

In Beaumont's special flood hazard areas a development permit applies, and filling, grading and excavation all count as development. Outside the city, Jefferson County Environmental Control asks to hear about any development first, and Drainage District No. 6 reviews drainage for larger sites. Requirements vary by parcel, scope and jurisdiction, and the governing authority makes the determination.

Flatwoods & Understory Clearing

Texas Parks and Wildlife describes the region's pine-hardwood flatwoods as a canopy of pine and oak over a midstory of red maple, American holly and winged elm, with wax myrtle, possumhaw and yaupon in the shrub layer. Left alone, that lower layer thickens until a lot with good trees on it looks like solid brush from the road.

Understory clearing removes the shrub and midstory layer and keeps the canopy. The mulching head can work in close around a loblolly or a water oak without tearing bark, and the chips stay down to protect the roots of the trees left standing.

Expect regrowth from stumps and seed over the next few seasons, and plan a return pass or your own mowing. Cut Brush does the mechanical work; any spraying is for you or a licensed applicator. If large trees also have to go, that is land clearing, and open grass alone is a mowing job.

Lot & Homesite Preparation

A wooded lot usually needs several openings at the same time: the house footprint and yard, a drive from the road, paths for power and water, and turning room for delivery trucks. Healthy pines and oaks near the house site are marked first so the machine keeps off their roots, and any tree that is leaning toward where the house will stand is dealt with before anything else.

You choose the finish in advance: a chip layer if the lot will sit for a while, or bare ground for the dirt contractor. Stump extraction, fill, pad work and grading are separate lines. In unincorporated Jefferson County, Environmental Control works out the flood zone when a development permit is applied for, and an A zone lot needs an elevation certificate. Low lots get a look at the flood map before anything is booked.

A mulched lot is not a finished building pad. If a bid implies otherwise, ask for it in writing.

More Jobs the Same Machine Handles

Owners in Jefferson, Orange, Hardin and Jasper counties often ask for these by name; each is built from the four methods above.

Fence Line Clearing

Greenbrier, yaupon and volunteer pine grow straight up through wire in this climate. A ground strip on each side of the fence gives you back a line you can walk, repair and keep mowed.

Brush Hogging

Rank grass and soft weeds on an open lot or pasture edge that went a season unmowed. Once saplings and woody shrubs take hold, a mulching head finishes cleaner than a cutter deck.

Invasive Species Removal

Here that mostly means Chinese tallow spreading into flatwoods and old fields. The machine takes the stems down; any herbicide on the regrowth is for the owner or a licensed applicator.

Trail Cutting

Walking paths, hunting lanes and access roads through pine and hardwood, routed along the ridges and around the swales so they stay usable after a wet week.

Commercial Clearing

Business, industrial and subdivision sites around Beaumont, Port Arthur and Orange, scoped with drainage district review and the state stormwater permit in view before dates are set.

Property Maintenance

Long growing seasons and steady rain mean cleared woods fill back in quickly. A return pass every year or two keeps the understory from closing the lot again.

Tick & Snake Habitat Reduction

A dense shrub layer up against a house, shop or kennel gives snakes, rodents and ticks cover. Opening a wide, chip-covered margin around the buildings takes that cover away.

Defensible Space

In a dry spell, a pine lot with heavy brush and needle litter close to the house carries fire. Thinning the brush and lifting ground fuel around the home gives a mower room to keep it that way.

Selective View Clearing

Sight lines opened toward a bayou, a pond or across your own woods, with the pines and oaks you want to frame the view tagged before anything moves.

Food Plot & Shooting Lane Clearing

Plots, lanes and stand sites cut into timber in Hardin and Jasper counties, sized so the surrounding cover still holds deer and the plot sits on the drier ground.

Horse Pasture & Paddock Reclamation

Small pastures overtaken by tallow, brush and saplings, ground level so grass can come back and no sharp stubs are left where horses walk.

HOA Compliance & Vacant Lot Clearing

An empty lot that drew a notice from the city or the HOA, cleared fast and left tidy, with nothing pushed into the street ditch on the way out.

Sell-Ready Lot Cleanup

Undergrowth cleared before a wooded parcel is listed, so buyers can see the trees worth keeping, where water sits after rain and where a house would go.
