What Cut Brush Does Around Lubbock

The land around Lubbock is open shortgrass country and cropland, with mesquite moving into whatever pasture, draw or acreage lot is left alone. Cut Brush offers four services here: mulching brush where it stands, full parcel clearing to an agreed finish, mesquite and pasture brush clearing around the trees you keep, and lot preparation for a new house or shop. Below is what each one leaves behind, when it is the wrong tool, and the smaller jobs people ask for by name.

Forestry Mulching

The machine runs on tracks and carries a toothed drum that chews brush and young trees into chips right where they stand. Mesquite trunks up to roughly eight inches feed straight in; bigger trees come down first and their tops are ground where they land. There is no pile, no fire and no truck.

On scattered pasture mesquite that is most of the job. You are left with open ground you can drive and mow, the grass between the trees still rooted, stumps at ground level and a chip layer over the bare spots. On the South Plains that cover matters: it holds soil against the wind and the hard summer thunderstorms. It also means no burn pile to wait on when the county has a burn ban.

It is the wrong choice when a builder needs bare dirt, since the chips stay behind, and it is only the first half of a mesquite job, because the crowns live through it and resprout. Soft grass is cheaper to mow.

Land Clearing

Full clearing is priced from the end result you want: which trees stay, where the open ground stops, and how low everything is cut. Our crew grinds trees, brush and stumps into mulch on site, leaves the stumps flush with the ground and hauls nothing away. Full stump removal below grade, which is what taking out a mesquite crown means, and cut-and-haul of very large trees are discussed and priced in the quote. Grading and build pads are not part of our price: we clear to the ground so a builder can grade.

This scope suits a brushy tract being split into acreage lots, old cropland gone back to mesquite, and commercial ground on the edges of Lubbock, Wolfforth or Levelland. A single overgrown fence line does not need it; pasture brush clearing costs less. Hours depend on stem count, trunk size and how far the machine travels from the road.

Clearing that disturbs an acre or more brings in stormwater rules, inside the city and in the county; the Lubbock land clearing page sums up both. Requirements vary by parcel, scope and jurisdiction, and the governing authority makes the determination.

Mesquite & Pasture Brush Clearing

The USDA Forest Service describes the Llano Estacado as shortgrass prairie of blue grama and buffalograss with patches of honey mesquite, and Texas A&M AgriLife notes that livestock and wildlife spread mesquite seed. Around Lubbock that puts young mesquite along fence lines, across grazed pasture and in the draws, often beside a few big trees worth keeping for shade.

Our crew takes out the young mesquite, resprouts and brush with the mulching head while steering around the trees you flag. Afterwards the pasture is open to see across and drive, with the grass left rooted and the shade trees still standing.

Plan the second step before the first. Mesquite resprouts from its crown, so lasting control means taking the crowns out below grade, priced in the quote, or a licensed applicator treating the regrowth later; that treatment is not ours. If the big trees should go too, that is land clearing.

Lot & Homesite Preparation

Opening an acreage lot for a house or shop means clearing the footprint and yard, a way in from the road, room for the utility lines and septic field, and a place for delivery trucks to turn. On flat ground the low spots that hold water after a storm decide a lot, so they are worth walking before the house is placed. Shade trees you keep are flagged with room left around them.

Settle the finish before work starts: a chip-covered lot if building is a year away, or the brush and stumps ground down to ground level. Grading, caliche base and build pads are not part of our price: we clear to the ground so your builder can grade. Ask the city or Lubbock County about stormwater early if the disturbed ground will reach an acre.

Jobs People Ask For by Name

People on the South Plains ask for the work under these names. Each is one of the four methods above, aimed at a particular problem.

Fence Line Clearing

Mesquite seedlings come up along wire where cattle and wildlife leave the beans. Grinding a strip down both sides of a pasture fence lets you see the posts and get a truck along it again.

Brush Hogging

Grass and soft weeds on an acreage lot or a retired field are a mowing job, and the quote says so when a mower is cheaper. Shredding young mesquite, though, only sets it up to come back with more stems.

Invasive Species Removal

Honey mesquite is native here, not invasive, but it spreads onto pasture and acreage where it is not wanted. Our crew grinds the stand; crown removal or a licensed applicator keeps it from coming back.

Trail Cutting

Ranch roads, four-wheeler lanes and paths along a draw or a canyon rim, laid out on firm ground and cut wide enough for the truck or machine that will use them.

Commercial Clearing

Business sites and land being split for sale on the edges of Lubbock, Wolfforth or Levelland, planned around the city's stormwater rules and the state permit at an acre or more.

Property Maintenance

A planned return visit a season or two after the first pass to catch mesquite resprouts and seedlings while they are small, which costs far less than clearing the whole tract again.

Tick & Snake Habitat Reduction

Brush and tall growth around a house, barn or pens gives snakes and rodents cover. Opening a wide strip around the buildings takes that cover away.

Defensible Space

Dry grass and brush close to buildings carry fire in a wind. Thinning the brush back and mulching it leaves a margin around the house, barn or shop that is easy to keep mowed.

Selective View Clearing

Opening a sight line from a homesite across the plains or down into a canyon, with the shade trees you want kept flagged before the machine moves.

Food Plot & Shooting Lane Clearing

Plots and lanes on hunting ground in the draws and along the Caprock edge are the same mulching work, aimed where the wildlife moves.

Horse Pasture & Paddock Reclamation

Horse pasture lost to mesquite brought back to grass with no brush pile to fence off, and with the stumps flush so the ground is safe to ride and mow.

HOA Compliance & Vacant Lot Clearing

A vacant lot in a subdivision outside town that has gone to brush, cleared to the property line so an association or a buyer sees the ground again.

Sell-Ready Lot Cleanup

Opening an acreage tract before it is listed, so buyers can see the building spot, the road frontage and how the ground lies.
