Land Clearing Cost in Lubbock, TX

Around Lubbock the brush is spread thin and the acres are many. A pasture outside Wolfforth may carry a mesquite every few yards, a draw near Slaton a thicket, and an acreage lot by Shallowater a few old trees and a crowd of young ones. So three things set most bills here: how many stems stand on each acre, whether the crowns have to come out, and our $1,500 project minimum, which is a minimum charge for the whole job, not a fee added on top. Larger ground prices from the per-acre rates below.

Your quote comes back as one figure for the job, with the method and the finish written beside it. Forestry mulching grinds brush, small trees and stumps into mulch on site, leaves the stumps flush with the ground and hauls nothing away. Full stump removal below grade, the step that keeps a mesquite from resprouting, and cut-and-haul of very large trees are discussed and priced in the same quote. Grading and build pads are not part of our price: we clear to the ground so a builder can grade. Herbicide treatment of the regrowth is listed as left out, because a licensed applicator does it. The figure does not change once work starts unless you add to the job.

Lubbock Rates by Type of Work

Forestry Mulching

$1,500 – $4,000 / acre

Mesquite, brush and saplings ground to mulch where they stand. Scattered young mesquite on open pasture prices low; a closed thicket of old, multi-stemmed trees along a draw prices high.

Mesquite & Pasture Brush Clearing

$1,500 – $2,500 / acre

Young mesquite, resprouts and brush cut out of pasture, fence lines and old cropland, with the bigger trees you want kept left standing. A return pass on regrowth from an earlier clearing usually falls in this row.

Land Clearing

$1,500 – $4,500 / acre

A whole parcel taken to the finish written into the quote. Light brush on flat ground lands near the bottom; big, old mesquite felled and ground flush lands near the top. Full stump removal below grade, which is how a mesquite crown is pulled, and cut-and-haul of very large trees are priced in the quote when you need them.

Lot & Homesite Prep

$1,500 – $4,500 / acre equivalent

A house footprint, drive and utility path opened on a brushy lot or acreage parcel, with stormwater questions on an acre or more settled first. Grading, caliche base and build pads are not part of our price: we clear to the ground so your builder can grade.

An acre lands anywhere in its band depending on stem count and tree size. A small job carries the same trailer trip and setup as a large one, so work that prices out below the bands is quoted at the $1,500 project minimum. Sharing the visit with a neighbor's fence line or lot is the simplest way to get more ground cleared for that minimum.

Five Factors Behind a Lubbock Price

How many stems, not how tall

Mesquite on the South Plains seldom grows into tall woods; what takes machine time is the number of trunks on each acre. A pasture with a tree every few yards goes quickly. Ground where old trees were cut or burned before now carries several stems from each crown, and the head has to work through every one of them.

Whether the crowns come out

Mulching cuts each tree at the surface, and Texas A&M AgriLife explains that mesquite resprouts from a bud zone on the root crown. If you want the crowns taken out below that zone, that is full stump removal below grade, priced in the quote. Treatment of the regrowth by a licensed applicator is separate and is not part of our price.

Getting the machine to the brush

On flat ground most tracts are easy to reach from the road. A gate too narrow for the trailer, crop rows or a pivot track to cross, a fence that has to come down and go back up, or a playa basin still holding water after a storm all add time. We will ask about the way in when we contact you.

Trees and features you keep

Shade trees by a house or pen, windbreak rows and fences you want left alone are all worth flagging. Working around a trunk or along a wire is slower than running straight through, and the quote reflects it. Point out everything that stays when we discuss the job.

Stormwater, burning and the brush

Clearing that disturbs an acre or more inside Lubbock falls under the city's stormwater rules, and a project that size in unincorporated Lubbock County sends its state notice to the county. None of this changes our rate, though it can move a start date; the Lubbock land clearing page sums up each rule. Mulching leaves no pile, so there is no burn or haul cost to add, and a county burn ban does not hold up the work.

Lubbock Pricing Questions

Plan on $1,500 to $4,500 an acre for most work, and expect a given acre to land anywhere in its band depending on how many mesquite stems stand on it and how big they are. Cutting young mesquite out of pasture is the lower part of that range; a closed stand of old, multi-stemmed trees ground flush is the upper part. Request a free quote and we'll contact you to turn the range into one written figure.
Yes, a $1,500 project minimum. It is the least any job costs, not a fee added on top: if the work prices out below $1,500, the quote is $1,500, and if it prices out above, the quote is that job price alone. Half an acre at the bottom of the mulching band works out to $750, so a small lot is priced at the minimum. The Lubbock forestry mulching cost guide compares per-acre, hourly and day-rate quotes.
Crown removal below grade is not in the mulching price; it is discussed and priced in the quote when you want it. Spraying is not ours at all: treatment of the regrowth is herbicide work for a licensed applicator, quoted separately by them. The Lubbock mesquite removal guide sets out how the steps fit together.
Ask what the lower figure covers. Shredding scattered brush, mulching with stumps ground flush and pulling crowns below grade are three different jobs, and a low number for one is not a price for another. Our bands are for mulching and clearing to the finish written in the quote. When a pasture only needs mowing, the quote says so, because a mower is the cheaper tool for soft growth.
