What Cut Brush Does Around Tooele

The land around Tooele runs from valley acreage covered in sagebrush to juniper benches below the Oquirrhs, with Russian olive along the ditches in between. Cut Brush offers four services here: mulching growth where it stands, full parcel clearing to an agreed finish, juniper and Russian olive clearing around the trees you keep, and lot preparation for a new house. Each is described below, with where it fits, where it does not, and the smaller jobs built from it.

Rates are on the Tooele pricing guide, and the local permit and ground picture is on the Tooele land clearing page. Asking is free through our quote form.

Forestry Mulching

A forestry mulcher is a tracked machine carrying a spinning drum fitted with heavy teeth. It feeds into sagebrush, juniper and saplings and leaves them as shredded wood on the ground. Small trees go straight through; larger trunks are felled first and the tops ground where they fall. Nothing is piled, burned or trucked away.

You are left with ground you can walk, under a chip layer, with stumps at ground level and the roots of the grass you want still in the soil. It is the same method Utah's Watershed Restoration Initiative used on 680 acres of pinyon and juniper under its Stockton Bullhog project, where tracked machines with mulching heads did the work. It also means no burn pile during the June to October closed fire season.

Where it falls short: a builder who wants clean dirt will have chips to deal with, and Russian olive roots survive the head, so the stumps need treating.

Land Clearing

A clearing quote starts from the finish. You decide which trees stay, how far back the cut goes and where the cleared ground ends. Mulching grinds brush, small trees and stumps on site, stumps flush and nothing hauled away; full stump removal below grade and cut-and-haul for very large trees are discussed and priced in the quote. One parcel can mix a mulched edge, mature junipers felled and ground, and a work area taken down to ground level for whatever comes next.

This scope suits juniper acreage being turned into a homesite, sagebrush ground going back into pasture, and commercial sites around Tooele, Lehi or West Jordan. A single ditch bank or fence line does not need it; the narrower clearing below costs less. Hours depend on trunk size, how rocky and steep the ground is and how far the machine travels from the road.

Inside Tooele, the Community Development department is the office to ask; outside the city, Tooele County. Disturbing an acre or more of soil brings in Utah's construction storm water permit. Requirements vary by parcel, scope and jurisdiction, and the governing authority makes the determination.

Juniper & Russian Olive Clearing

Utah State University's sagebrush research sites in Rush Valley include a sagebrush and Utah juniper stand. Young juniper filling in between the bigger trees, and sagebrush grown thick on a lot edge or pasture, are what this service takes out. Along ditches and stream banks the problem is Russian olive, which the state lists as a Class 4 prohibited noxious weed.

The mulching head takes out the young juniper, sagebrush and olive while steering between the trees you flag. Afterwards you can see the fence, walk the ditch and find the grass again, with the bigger trees still standing.

Plan a second step on Russian olive. It sprouts from the root crown and sends up root suckers, so a stump treatment by your licensed applicator, and a look the following season, is what keeps the bank open. If the big trees should go too, that is land clearing; soft weeds are cheaper to mow.

Lot & Homesite Preparation

A homesite quote usually covers four areas: the house and yard, a drive in from the road, paths for power, water and sewer or septic, and a spot where trucks and materials can sit. On a bench lot the slope and the view decide as much as the brush does, so walk it and choose the junipers worth keeping before the house spot is fixed. Ask the city or county office what your scope needs first.

Settle the finish before work starts: a chip-covered lot if building is a year away, or the brush and trees taken down to ground level, ready for the next stage of the build.

Grading and build pads are not part of our price: we clear to the ground so your builder can grade.

Other Jobs the Same Machines Handle

Requests from around Tooele tend to arrive under these names; every one is built from the four methods above.

Fence Line Clearing

Pasture and property fences around Erda, Grantsville and Rush Valley disappear under sagebrush and young juniper. Grinding the strip back uncovers the wire and posts so they can be repaired or moved.

Brush Hogging

Weeds and a season of soft growth on a lot or pasture are a mowing job, not a mulching one, and the quote says so when a tractor and cutter is cheaper. Woody sagebrush and juniper are another matter.

Invasive Species Removal

Here that mostly means Russian olive, which Utah lists as a prohibited noxious weed. Our crew brings the trees down; a stump treatment by your licensed applicator keeps them from sprouting back.

Trail Cutting

Walking paths and four-wheeler lanes through juniper and sagebrush on a bench or foothill parcel, laid out to follow the easier grades.

Commercial Clearing

Business and multi-lot sites in Tooele, Lehi or West Jordan, planned around the city office and Utah construction storm water coverage from one acre of disturbed soil.

Property Maintenance

A planned return visit a season or two after the first pass. Russian olive sprouts from the root crown and root suckers, and catching the sprouts small costs far less than clearing the bank again.

Tick & Snake Habitat Reduction

Brush grown up against a house, barn or shop gives snakes and rodents cover. Opening a wide strip around the buildings takes that cover away.

Defensible Space

Thinning juniper and sagebrush where the brush meets a house or barn, so less fuel sits against the walls. Mulching it means no burn pile during the closed fire season.

Selective View Clearing

Opening a sight line from a bench homesite toward the Tooele Valley, the lake or the Oquirrhs, with the junipers you want kept flagged before the machine moves.

Food Plot & Shooting Lane Clearing

Lanes and openings on hunting or recreation ground, with cover left where you want it. This is clearing only, not tilling or planting.

Horse Pasture & Paddock Reclamation

Paddocks and small pastures overgrown with sagebrush and young juniper brought back toward grass, with no brush pile to fence off.

HOA Compliance & Vacant Lot Clearing

An overgrown lot in Stansbury Park, Herriman or Saratoga Springs with a notice or a closing date, cleared to the line, with the city or county office asked about permits first.

Sell-Ready Lot Cleanup

Opening a lot or acreage before listing it, so buyers can see the building spot, the road frontage and the view.
