Land Clearing Cost in Tooele, UT

Clearing work around Tooele splits two ways. Juniper acreage on the benches and valley floor is priced by the acre and moves with trunk size, the trees you keep and how rough the ground is. Russian olive clearing along a ditch or creek bottom is narrow work, priced by the acreage the strip adds up to, and it usually sits in the lower clearing row. Most properties near Grantsville, Erda or Stockton have some of each, and the four rows below cover both.

Your quote comes back as a single figure on paper, with the method and the finish beside it. Forestry mulching grinds brush, small trees and stumps into mulch on site, with stumps flush with the ground and nothing hauled away. Full stump removal below grade and cut-and-haul for very large trees are discussed and priced in the quote. Grading and build pads are not part of our price: we clear to the ground so a builder can grade. Herbicide on Russian olive stumps is a licensed applicator's work and price, not ours.

Tooele Rates by Type of Work

Forestry Mulching

$1,500 – $4,000 / acre

Juniper, sagebrush and brush ground to mulch where they stand, with stumps flush and the chips left on site. Young growth on open, even ground prices low; a closed juniper stand with big trunks on a rocky slope prices high.

Juniper & Russian Olive Clearing

$1,500 – $2,500 / acre

Young juniper and sagebrush cut out of pasture and lot edges, or Russian olive taken off a ditch bank, with the bigger trees you keep left standing. A ditch or fence strip counted by its acreage equivalent usually falls in this row.

Land Clearing

$1,500 – $4,500 / acre

A whole parcel taken to the finish written into the quote. Scattered small juniper on open ground lands near the bottom; a dense stand of mature trees mulched down to ground level lands near the top. Full stump removal below grade, or cut-and-haul for very large trees, is discussed and priced in the quote.

Lot & Homesite Prep

$1,500 – $4,500 / acre equivalent

A house footprint, drive and utility path opened on a brushy lot or an acreage parcel. We clear to the ground so your builder can grade; grading and the pad are not part of this price.

An acre can land anywhere in its row, depending on what is growing. $1,500 is the minimum charge for a project, not a fee added on top: bringing a tracked mulcher to a lot in Stansbury Park or a ditch bank near Grantsville costs the same for two hours as for eight, so a small job is billed at the minimum. Grouping several small areas, or two neighbours, into one visit gets more from it.

Five Factors Behind a Tooele Price

How big the junipers have grown

Knee-high juniper goes through the mulching head in seconds; a trunk you would need a saw for takes minutes, and a closed stand of them takes hours. The state learned the same thing on its own projects: the Stockton Bullhog job mulched pinyon and juniper across 680 acres and left the biggest trees standing. Size is the single largest swing in a Tooele quote.

Which trees you keep

Leaving a few big junipers per acre, or a row along a property line, looks better than bare ground and costs less than grinding them. Working around a trunk takes more care than running straight through, though, so flag every tree you want kept before anyone prices the job.

Sagebrush density and ground

Scattered sagebrush on flat valley ground is quick work. Dense, waist-high brush on rocky or sloping ground slows the machine, and a bench lot that climbs toward the Oquirrhs prices higher than flat acreage near the lake. Slope and surface rock are part of what our crew discusses with you.

Russian olive on a ditch bank

Ditch work is narrow and often wet at the edge, and Russian olive carries thorns at its twig tips and comes back from the root crown. Our price covers bringing the trees down. The stump treatment that stops them sprouting is your licensed applicator's work and price, usually on a later visit.

Permits and what happens to the brush

Tooele City and Tooele County can tell you whether your scope needs anything from them, and disturbing an acre or more of soil brings in the state construction storm water permit. Neither changes our rate, though either can move a start date. Mulching leaves no pile, so there is no burn permit to add.

Tooele Pricing Questions

Plan on $1,500 to $4,500 an acre for most work. Young juniper and sagebrush on open ground are the lower part of that range; a closed stand of mature juniper mulched down to ground level is the upper part. Mulching is one machine making one pass, with stumps left flush under a chip layer and the ground left as it lies. Full clearing takes down denser stands and larger trees to a stated finish, which can include stump removal below grade or cut-and-haul for very large trees, discussed and priced in the quote. The extra machine hours are why clearing reaches $4,500 an acre and mulching stops at $4,000. Which of the two your price covers is written on the quote. The Tooele forestry mulching cost guide explains the mulching figure.
Per acre it usually sits in the $1,500 to $2,500 clearing row, because ditch-bank stands are narrow. What adds cost is the follow-up, outside our price: the trees sprout again from the root crown, so plan a stump treatment by your licensed applicator and a check the next season. Our Russian olive removal guide sets out the timing.
They bid hundreds of acres at once and leave the biggest trees. The Stockton Bullhog project took a bid of $239.50 an acre in 2014 across 680 acres. A private parcel of a few acres carries the same trailer, setup and travel over far less ground, which is why the bands above start at $1,500.
