Land Clearing Cost in Ranchettes and North Cheyenne, WY

North of Cheyenne, the size of the job tends to matter more than the kind of tree. Land clearing here runs $1,500 to $4,500 an acre, and a lone windbreak row or fence line starts at a minimum charge of about $1,500. Most work on these acreage lots is a windbreak row, a fence line, a draw with Russian olive in it or the spot for a new house, and much of it covers less than an acre. The ranges below set a budget for each kind of work, and the written quote fits them to your lot.

Your quote carries one written price for the finish we agree, and a return visit for sprouts, if the row needs one, is listed on a separate line. Forestry mulching turns brush, small trees and stumps into mulch on site; stumps finish flush with the ground and nothing is hauled away. Full stump removal below grade, and cutting and hauling very large trees, are discussed and priced in the quote. Grading and build pads are not part of our price; we clear to the ground so a builder can grade. Any herbicide in the plan is a licensed applicator's work.

Ranchettes and North Cheyenne Rates by Type of Work

Forestry Mulching

$1,500 – $4,000 / acre

Russian olive, brush and young trees ground into chips where they stand. A thin stand in a draw sits near $1,500 an acre; a block of old shelterbelt grown solid with volunteer trees climbs toward $4,000.

Windbreak & Fence Line Clearing

$1,500 – $2,500 / acre

A single windbreak row, brush grown through a wire fence or scattered Russian olive along a property line, worked around the trees you are keeping. A row is measured by the share of an acre it covers.

Land Clearing

$1,500 – $4,500 / acre

An acreage lot taken to the finish set in your quote. A few volunteer trees on open grass sit low; several shelterbelt rows removed down to the soil sit at the top. Stumps are ground flush, and taking them out below grade is a separate line.

Lot & Homesite Prep

$1,500 – $4,500 / acre equivalent

The house footprint, a shop, the drive and a cleared route for power, the well and septic on a new acreage lot. We stop at ground level; grading and the pad belong to your builder.

Small jobs start at a minimum charge of about $1,500. The tracked mulcher comes on a trailer whatever the size of the job, so one windbreak row in Fox Farm-College or a fence line near Burns is charged the minimum in place of an acre rate, with nothing added on top. Above that, the acre bands apply, and a second row cleared on the same visit gets more from the trip.

What Moves a Ranchettes or North Cheyenne Quote

How much ground the row covers

A windbreak is priced by the ground it takes up, not by counting trees. A row 600 feet long and 30 feet wide covers about 0.41 of an acre, and two or three rows planted side by side add up quickly. A long single row also means more travel along the line for the machine, which places the job higher in its band than a compact block of the same area.

What the row is made of

Dead trees, healthy trees you want kept and Russian olive volunteers often share one row. Working around keepers goes slower than taking a whole row out, and thick trunks in an old shelterbelt may need felling before the cutting head can grind them, so a mixed row lands higher in the band than a uniform one.

Russian olive and what comes back

Russian olive is a state designated noxious weed in Wyoming, and mulching it alone brings heavy resprouting. Our clearing is priced in the band. A licensed applicator prices any stump treatment, and a return visit to cut sprouts appears as its own line, so you decide on it separately.

Burning, hauling and the wood

Mulching leaves nothing to burn, so fire restrictions and burn days do not change the price of a mulched job. Hauling does: cutting and hauling very large trees is discussed and priced in the quote, because loading and trucking wood to a compost yard or landfill is extra work on top of the clearing.

Getting the machine to the row

Open lots usually make access straightforward. A narrow gate, a paddock with horses in it, buried utility lines beside the row or wet ground after a spring storm can all slow the work. Expect a question about the route in when we call about the quote.

Ranchettes Pricing Questions

Most work runs $1,500 to $4,500 an acre. A thin row or a brushy fence line usually prices near the bottom, and several rows of old shelterbelt cleared to the soil near the top, though any single acre can land anywhere in its band depending on the trees, the access and what has to be kept. The $1,500 minimum is where small jobs start, not what a typical acre costs.
By the share of an acre it covers. A single row often comes in under the minimum at the windbreak band, and when it does, it is charged the minimum of about $1,500 in place of an acre rate, with nothing added. The Ranchettes forestry mulching cost guide works through a row and compares mulching it with cutting and treating the stumps.
Not per acre. Scattered trees in a row or along a fence fall in the $1,500 to $2,500 windbreak and fence line band, and a dense thicket in a draw prices as forestry mulching. What changes is the follow-up: a ground-out stand sprouts, so a licensed applicator treats the sprouts, or treats each stump the moment it is cut on a cut-stump job, and the applicator prices that work. Our Wyoming Russian olive removal guide sets out the visits.
The same four bands apply in Wellington, Nunn, Ault and Laporte as in Ranchettes, Burns or Pine Bluffs. Distance, access and what is growing decide where a job falls in its band. The towns and county rules are summarized on the Ranchettes land clearing page.
