What Cut Brush Does Around Ranchettes and North Cheyenne
On the acreage lots north of Cheyenne, the clearing people pay for comes in four kinds: grinding trees and brush with a forestry mulcher, clearing a lot outright, taking out windbreak rows and fence line brush, and opening a new lot for a house. Each one is covered below, with the finish it leaves and the jobs it is wrong for, followed by the smaller tasks callers name on the phone.
Rates are on the Ranchettes pricing page, and county permits, burning and Russian olive on the Ranchettes land clearing page. There is no charge for a quote: ask for one here.
Forestry Mulching
On a forestry mulcher the cutting happens at the front: a drum set with teeth spins against whatever the operator drives into, whether Russian olive, brush or a young tree, and turns it into chips on the spot. A trunk too thick for the drum is felled first and ground lying down. Nothing is dragged into a pile and nothing leaves on a truck.
You are left with grass ground under a layer of chips, stumps level with the surface and the roots still in the soil. We plan the route around access and ground conditions before starting.
It suits a thicket in a draw or a solid block of old shelterbelt. It is the wrong choice where a builder needs bare dirt under a slab, and on Russian olive it brings the trees down without killing the roots, so the sprouts need a plan of their own.
Land Clearing
Land clearing takes a whole lot, or a whole block of trees, to a finish agreed before work starts: which rows stay, where the opening stops, and whether you want chips on the ground or something close to bare soil. Stumps finish flush under the mulch; taking them out below grade, or felling and hauling very large trees, is discussed and priced in the quote. Our work ends at the surface, and grading is your builder's.
It fits a lot where several shelterbelt rows come out together, ground being readied for a new home and shop, or commercial ground on the edge of Cheyenne. One row or one fence line does not need it; the windbreak and fence line rate covers that for less.
Laramie County's grading, erosion and sediment control permit applies once land-disturbing activity reaches an acre, residential projects included. Requirements vary by parcel, scope and jurisdiction, and the governing authority makes the determination.
Windbreak & Fence Line Clearing
This rate covers the lighter work that makes up much of the clearing on these lots. Windbreak rows come first: new windbreaks are still planted here every year, and an old row in time becomes a mix of dead trees, survivors and volunteers. Fence lines are the other half, with brush and young trees grown through the wire along a pasture or a lot line.
Our operator works the row from its open side, takes out what you have marked to go and leaves every tree you flag. Afterward the fence can be walked and mended, and a thinned row is ready for replanting if you want it to keep breaking the wind.
Russian olive in a row sprouts from the stump after it is cut. A licensed applicator's stump treatment, and any later visit for sprouts, are separate lines on the quote. A planting wide enough to count as a block prices as forestry mulching or land clearing instead.
Lot & Homesite Preparation
A new house on an acreage lot north of Cheyenne needs more opened up than its footprint: the drive in from the road, a cleared route for power, the well and the septic, room for a shop and a place for delivery trucks to swing around. We walk the lot with you first and mark every row or tree you want kept for shelter before anything else is placed.
Timing sets the finish. Where building is months off, a chip layer protects the ground in the meantime; where the builder is ready, everything comes down to soil. Grading, fill, foundations and pads are other trades' work, and stumps out below grade, where the plan calls for it, are priced in the quote. Laramie County's planning office is the place to ask about the house site before it is opened.
Smaller Jobs People Call About
Around Ranchettes and Cheyenne, callers usually describe the problem rather than the machine. All of these are done with the four methods above; herbicide stays with a licensed applicator and grading with your builder.
Fence Line Clearing
Brush, Russian olive and young trees grown through a wire fence along a pasture or lot line, cut back so the fence can be walked and repaired.
Brush Hogging
Tall grass and weeds on an acreage lot are a mowing job and cheaper than a mulcher, and we tell you when that is the case. Once woody stems are in the mix, the mulcher earns its place.
Invasive Species Removal
Russian olive first: a state designated noxious weed in Wyoming, and the tree that turns up in old windbreaks and draws. Our crew cuts and grinds it, and stump treatment is left to a licensed applicator. Salt cedar, on the same state list, is handled the same way.
Trail Cutting
Paths for walking, horses or ATVs through a shelterbelt block or along a draw on a larger parcel.
Commercial Clearing
Commercial or multi-lot ground around Cheyenne cleared to the limits on the site plan, with the project's erosion controls already in place.
Property Maintenance
Return visits after a row or a draw has been cleared, cutting sprouts while they are small rather than letting them grow into the next job.
Tick & Snake Habitat Reduction
Overgrown rows and tall brush beside a house, barn or kennel give rodents, ticks and snakes somewhere to hide. A mowable margin opened around the yard takes that cover away.
Defensible Space
Dry brush and dead trees cut back from a house, shop or hay barn so less fuel sits against the walls. Your fire district sets the rules for your property.
Selective View Clearing
A view opened across the grassland from a house or deck, with every keeper tree flagged before the machine moves.
Food Plot & Shooting Lane Clearing
Openings and lanes on a larger parcel, with the cover around them left in place. We clear to the ground; working and seeding the plot is yours.
Horse Pasture & Paddock Reclamation
Brush and volunteer trees crowding a horse pasture or paddock, ground down with the stumps left flush, so nothing sits in a pile for horses to walk around.
HOA Compliance & Vacant Lot Clearing
An overgrown lot in Cheyenne or one of the subdivisions north of town that has drawn a notice, or is headed for sale, cleared back to its lines.
Sell-Ready Lot Cleanup
An acreage lot tidied before listing, so buyers can see the house site, the road frontage and the fence lines without wading through brush.
