Land Clearing Cost in Albuquerque, NM

Around Albuquerque the price follows the water. Lots along the ditches and the bosque edge from Corrales to Belen fill with Siberian elm and saltcedar, and the work there is priced by how dense it has grown and whether the clay is dry enough to drive on. Up in the East Mountains it is juniper on rocky slopes, priced by trunk size and grade. Out on the mesa around Rio Rancho the growth is usually lighter. The four rows below cover all three.

The written quote gives you one number and names the method and the finish it buys. Forestry mulching grinds brush, small trees and stumps into mulch on site, with stumps flush with the ground and nothing hauled away. Full stump removal below grade and cut-and-haul for very large trees are discussed and priced in the quote. Grading and build pads are not part of our price: we clear to the ground so a builder can grade. Herbicide on elm or saltcedar stumps is a licensed applicator's work and price, not ours.

Albuquerque Rates by Type of Work

Forestry Mulching

$1,500 – $4,000 / acre

Brush, elm saplings, saltcedar and small juniper ground to mulch where they stand, with stumps flush and the chips left on site. Scattered growth on dry, open ground prices low; a dense thicket on soft valley ground or a juniper slope prices high.

Siberian Elm & Saltcedar Clearing

$1,500 – $2,500 / acre

Elm volunteers and saltcedar cut back from a ditch bank, fence line or lot edge, with the cottonwoods and shade trees you keep left standing. A narrow ditch strip counted by its acreage equivalent usually falls in this row.

Land Clearing

$1,500 – $4,500 / acre

A whole parcel taken to the finish written into the quote. A lightly grown mesa lot lands near the bottom; a bosque-edge parcel thick with elm and saltcedar, mulched down to ground level, lands near the top. Full stump removal below grade, or cut-and-haul for very large trees, is discussed and priced in the quote.

Lot & Homesite Prep

$1,500 – $4,500 / acre equivalent

A house footprint, drive and utility path opened on a brushy lot in the valley, on the mesa or in the East Mountains. We clear to the ground so your builder can grade; grading and the pad are not part of this price.

Where your acre falls inside a row depends on the growth on it. $1,500 is the minimum charge for a project, the smallest bill rather than an extra fee, since loading, hauling and unloading the machine is the same work for a short ditch bank as for a long day. Neighbours on one ditch who book together make better use of it.

Five Factors Behind an Albuquerque Price

How thick the elm and saltcedar have grown

A few elm whips along a fence go through the mulching head in minutes. A ditch bank where seedlings have filled in for a decade, with saltcedar woven through them, takes hours an acre. Density is the largest swing in a valley quote, and the reason two lots of the same size on the same road can price apart.

Whether the valley ground is dry

Floodplain clay down the valley, such as the Armijo series mapped at Belen, is very sticky and plastic and drains very slowly. A tracked machine works it once it is firm, not the week after irrigation. Planning around the water schedule keeps the price where it was quoted.

Juniper size and slope in the East Mountains

Around Cedar Crest, Tijeras and Edgewood the growth is juniper on rocky, sloping ground. Small trees are quick; trunks you would need a saw for take minutes each, and slope slows every pass. Flag the trees you want kept before anyone prices the job.

Trees you keep along the water

Cottonwoods, fruit trees and shade trees on a valley lot are worth keeping, and working around them takes more care than running straight through. Our price covers bringing the elm and saltcedar down. A stump treatment to stop resprouting is your licensed applicator's work and price.

Permits and what happens to the wood

In Bernalillo County, disturbing three-quarters of an acre or more of soil needs a fugitive dust permit before work starts, and open burning is prohibited unless permitted for a listed purpose. Neither changes our rate, though a permit can move a start date. Mulching leaves no pile, so there is nothing to burn or truck to a green waste site.

Albuquerque Pricing Questions

Plan on $1,500 to $4,500 an acre for most work. Scattered elm saplings or light brush on dry ground are the lower part of that range; a dense elm and saltcedar thicket on a valley lot, mulched down to ground level, is the upper part. A mulching job is a single pass that leaves chips on the ground and stumps level with it. Clearing a whole parcel to a set finish can take heavier stands, bigger trunks and, where the quote says so, stumps out below grade or very large trees cut and hauled. More machine time per acre is why the clearing row tops out at $4,500 and the mulching row at $4,000. Comparing an hourly quote? The Albuquerque forestry mulching cost guide shows how.
Per acre it usually sits in the $1,500 to $2,500 clearing row, because ditch-bank stands are narrow. What adds cost is the follow-up, outside our price: the roots send up sprouts, so plan a stump treatment by your licensed applicator and a check the next season. Our Siberian elm removal guide sets out the timing.
No. It is the least a project costs. Bringing a tracked machine to a quarter-acre lot in Los Ranchos takes the same trailer trip and setup as a full day on acreage near Los Lunas, so a small job is billed at the minimum rather than by the acre.
