What Cut Brush Does Around Sweet Home

Ground around Sweet Home runs from valley fields to timbered foothills, and what takes it over is broom, brush and young trees, often on land that was logged. Our crew handles it four ways: forestry mulching, full land clearing, Scotch broom and brush clearing, and opening a parcel for a house. We clear land; we do not log it. Below, each method is set out with the ground it suits and the ground it does not, then the jobs people ask for by name.

Forestry Mulching

The mulcher is a tracked machine carrying a drum fitted with steel teeth. Broom, brush and saplings up to about eight inches across are fed into it standing and come out as a layer of chips on the ground. Anything thicker is felled first, and the drum works through its top where it lies.

You are left with ground you can walk and mow, stumps cut flush with their roots still holding the soil, and a chip cover that keeps a foothill slope from washing through the winter rain. Close to town there is a second payoff: within three miles of Sweet Home, burning clearing debris needs a DEQ letter permit, and a mulched acre has nothing to burn.

It is the wrong choice when a builder wants bare soil at once, and it does nothing about the broom seed already in the ground, so seedlings follow and need their own visit.

Land Clearing

Land clearing starts with how you want the property to look afterward: the trees that stay, the line where the field should end, and how open the ground needs to be. Your quote describes exactly that finish. Stumps are ground flush under the chips; pulling them below grade, or cutting and hauling very large trees, is discussed and priced in the quote. Grading is your builder's work, so ours stops at the surface.

It suits a wooded parcel headed for a new use, a field going back into hay or grazing, or business ground near Lebanon or Albany, OR. For one brushy margin, the broom and brush rate costs less. Stem size, slope and how wet the ground is set the time a job takes.

Clearing forestland for another use means a Notification of Operation to the Oregon Department of Forestry at least 15 days before work starts, and an acre or more of disturbed soil brings in DEQ's 1200-C stormwater permit. Requirements vary by parcel, scope and jurisdiction, and the governing authority makes the determination.

Scotch Broom & Brush Clearing

Scotch broom readily invades disturbed sites and forestland and can smother young planted trees. Around Sweet Home that means harvest ground, road edges and field margins, where the dense green stems can close the ground in.

The mulcher works through the stand and the brush with it, cutting to the ground and steering around every tree you have flagged, young plantation trees included. Afterward the margin is open, the fence is visible and you can walk under the trees you kept.

Broom seed lasts ten years or more in the soil, so plan on seedlings once the stand is gone. The quote lists the return visit, or a licensed applicator's treatment you arrange, as its own line. If the larger trees are coming out as well, the work is priced as land clearing, and growth that is still soft and low costs less to mow.

Lot & Homesite Preparation

A house on a wooded parcel needs its footprint and yard, a drive in from the road, a cleared route for power, water and septic, and room for trucks to turn. On land zoned for forest use, Oregon's fire siting rule, OAR 660-006-0035, also asks the owner to keep a primary and a secondary fuel-free break around the house. We lay the clearing out with that in mind and ribbon each tree you are keeping before the first cut.

Time the finish to the build. A parcel that will sit for a season is better left under chips, which hold the soil through the rain; one the builder starts on soon is mulched down to the ground. Grading, fill, foundations and pads are not our work, and stumps pulled below grade, where the plans need it, are priced in the quote. Linn County or the city sets the conditions for a given parcel.

Jobs People Ask For by Name

Requests around Linn County usually arrive as one of these jobs. Each comes from the four methods above, with herbicide left to a licensed applicator and grading to your builder.

Fence Line Clearing

A fence along a timber edge disappears behind broom and young trees within a few seasons. The mulcher takes the line back to the wire so you can walk it and see what needs mending.

Brush Hogging

Grass and soft weeds in a field that sat idle for a summer are a job for a tractor and rotary cutter, and we will tell you when that is the cheaper route. Once broom stems and saplings are in it, the mulcher is the right machine.

Invasive Species Removal

Around Sweet Home that usually means Scotch broom, a B-rated noxious weed and the most extensive forest weed in Oregon. We cut and grind it; any herbicide is a licensed applicator's work, timed around ours.

Trail Cutting

Walking, riding or ATV trails through a wooded back parcel, laid along the contour where the ground is firm and kept off the spots that hold winter water.

Commercial Clearing

Business sites and multi-lot ground around Lebanon, Albany or Springfield cleared to the approved plan, with the stormwater permit on the job in mind.

Property Maintenance

A return visit a season or two after the first clearing, when broom seedlings are small and quick to knock down, before they grow into a new stand.

Tick & Snake Habitat Reduction

Brush and broom up against a house, shop or play area give ticks and rodents somewhere to live. Taking it back to a band you can mow leaves them less cover.

Defensible Space

Brush, broom and low growth cut back from a home or outbuilding, so less dry fuel sits near the walls in summer. Your county or city sets any defensible space rule that applies.

Selective View Clearing

A view opened toward the foothills, across a field or down to the river, with every tree you want kept marked before the machine starts.

Food Plot & Shooting Lane Clearing

Openings and lanes cut on hunting ground, with the cover that holds game left in place. Our part ends at cleared ground; working the soil and seeding are yours.

Horse Pasture & Paddock Reclamation

A pasture that broom and brush have crept into from the woods edge, taken back to grass, with the cut growth ground into the surface rather than left in a pile.

HOA Compliance & Vacant Lot Clearing

An empty lot in Sweet Home, Lebanon or Junction City with a notice from the city or the association, or a sale coming, cut back to its lines.

Sell-Ready Lot Cleanup

A rural parcel cleared before it goes on the market, so a buyer can stand where a house would go, see the road frontage and find the corners.
