What Cut Brush Does Around Nephi

Our crew is hired around Nephi for four kinds of work: grinding juniper and brush with a forestry mulcher, taking a parcel to a finished clearing, cutting young cedars and oak brush out of open ground, and opening a foothill or valley lot for a house. Below, each one is described by what the machine does, what it leaves and when another method suits better, followed by the named jobs people ask for.

Rates are on the Nephi pricing page, and the offices, slopes and burn rules on the Nephi land clearing page. Quotes are free: ask for one here.

Forestry Mulching

The mulcher is a tracked machine with a cutting drum on its front that chews up whatever it is driven into. A cedar is ground from the crown down to its base; oak brush, sagebrush and saplings go through standing. A juniper too big for the drum is cut first and its top ground where it lands. The result is a chip layer on the spot, with no slash pile and nothing loaded on a truck.

You are left with open ground under the chips, stumps level with the surface and the soil still held by roots. On the bench above town, where the canyon soils wash easily, keeping the ground covered is part of the point.

It suits juniper well, because a ground-out juniper does not sprout back. It suits oak less on its own: the drum takes the stems, the root mass survives and sends up new shoots, so oak ground is planned with a return cut. A builder who needs bare mineral soil has chips to deal with.

Land Clearing

Land clearing is quoted against the result you describe: the junipers you want left, the line where the clearing stops, and a chip floor or ground close to bare soil. Stumps are ground level under the mulch; pulling them out below grade, or cutting and hauling very large trees, is discussed and priced in the quote. We stop at the soil surface and leave grading to your builder.

It fits a parcel grown solid with juniper and oak that is about to become building lots, a pasture that has turned into scrub, or commercial ground near Nephi or Spanish Fork. A few young cedars in sagebrush do not need it; the juniper and oak brush rate covers that for less.

Disturbing an acre or more of soil brings in Utah DEQ's construction storm water coverage, and building on the cleared ground goes through Nephi City or the Juab County Planning and Zoning office. Requirements vary by parcel, scope and jurisdiction, and the governing authority makes the determination.

Juniper & Oak Brush Clearing

This rate covers lighter work on two plants. One is young juniper moving into sagebrush and pasture: Junipers have spread into sagebrush-grass ground since settlement and, left alone, crowd out the grass and shrubs. Small cedars are quick to grind, which is why taking them early costs less than waiting. The other is Gambel oak brush, cut back under the trees you are keeping.

Our operator works between the trunks you have flagged and leaves the ground walkable, with the sagebrush and grass you want still rooted. On sloping ground the operator follows the contour of the hill.

Gambel oak's woody root mass drives rapid sprouting once the top is gone, so the oak part of a job carries a return visit, listed apart on the quote. Once the large junipers are coming out too, price it as forestry mulching or land clearing.

Lot & Homesite Preparation

A house on a bench parcel or a valley acreage near Nephi, Mona or Fountain Green needs more open than its footprint: a drive from the road, a cleared route for power, the well and the septic, space for a shop and somewhere for the concrete truck to back in. Before the house spot is fixed, we walk the lot with you, check the grade and any power line, and mark the junipers you are keeping.

Timing sets the finish. A lot that waits through a winter is best left under chips, which hold the soil on a slope; one the builder will start on within weeks is cleared down to the ground. Foundations, fill, grading and pads are work for other trades, and pulling stumps below grade, if the plan calls for it, is priced in the quote.

Smaller Jobs People Call About

From Spanish Fork to Ephraim, callers tend to describe the result they want, not the machine. Each job below is done with the four methods above; herbicide stays with a licensed applicator and grading with your builder.

Fence Line Clearing

Juniper and oak brush grown through a pasture or boundary fence, cut back so the wire can be walked, checked and repaired.

Brush Hogging

Grass and soft weeds in a field that skipped a season are a tractor and rotary cutter job and cost less; we say so. Woody oak sprouts and young cedars call for the mulcher.

Invasive Species Removal

Utah juniper is a native tree, but it has spread into sagebrush ground since settlement, and our crew grinds out the young ones. Russian olive along a ditch is cut and ground too; stump treatment on it is a licensed applicator's work.

Trail Cutting

A riding, hiking or ATV path cut over a cedar bench or through oak brush, routed along the gentler grades.

Commercial Clearing

Subdivision and business sites around Nephi, Payson or Spanish Fork, cleared to the lines on the approved site plan once the storm water controls are in.

Property Maintenance

A return visit to cut oak sprouts while they are small, and to catch any juniper seedlings, before the ground needs clearing again.

Tick & Snake Habitat Reduction

Brush crowding a yard, barn or play area gives rodents, ticks and snakes cover. A wide mowable margin around the house takes that cover away.

Defensible Space

Juniper and oak brush pulled away from a foothill home, a shop or a hay barn, so less fuel stands beside the walls. Your fire district sets the rules for your parcel.

Selective View Clearing

A view opened toward the valley from a bench lot, with each juniper you are keeping marked before the machine starts.

Food Plot & Shooting Lane Clearing

Openings and lanes cut through oak brush for hunting, with the surrounding cover kept. Our crew leaves bare ground; tilling and seeding the plot are yours.

Horse Pasture & Paddock Reclamation

Young cedars and brush working their way into a horse pasture, mulched down to the grass line so no stubs or piles are left for hooves.

HOA Compliance & Vacant Lot Clearing

A Nephi, Santaquin or Salem lot that has drawn a city or association notice, or is about to be listed, cleared out to its boundaries.

Sell-Ready Lot Cleanup

A foothill or valley parcel cleared ahead of a listing, so buyers can stand on the house site, see the frontage and follow the property lines.
