Land Clearing Cost in Nephi, UT

Around Nephi the price of an acre turns on which of two trees is standing on it. Expect $1,500 to $4,500 an acre for land clearing in the Nephi area, with a few cedars or one oak patch carrying a minimum charge of about $1,500. Utah juniper, the cedar on the benches and the sagebrush flats, comes down once and grows back only from seed. Gambel oak, often packed under the juniper on the foothills, sprouts back from its roots and needs a second cut. Add the grade on a bench lot and you have most of what moves a quote here. Use the ranges below for a budget, and the quote matches them to your lot.

Your quote gives one written figure for the finish we agree on, and an oak return cut, where the ground needs one, is set out on its own line for you to accept or skip. Forestry mulching turns brush, small trees and stumps into mulch on site; stumps finish flush with the ground and nothing is hauled away. Full stump removal below grade, and cutting and hauling very large trees, are discussed and priced in the quote. Grading and build pads are not part of our price; we clear to the ground so a builder can grade.

Nephi Rates by Type of Work

Forestry Mulching

$1,500 – $4,000 / acre

Juniper, oak brush and young trees ground into chips where they stand. Scattered small cedars in sagebrush sit near $1,500 an acre; a closed stand of big junipers over thick oak on a bench climbs toward $4,000.

Juniper & Oak Brush Clearing

$1,500 – $2,500 / acre

Young juniper taken out of sagebrush or pasture before it grows into a stand, and Gambel oak brush cut back under the trees you keep. A return cut on oak sprouts is quoted as its own line in this band.

Land Clearing

$1,500 – $4,500 / acre

An entire parcel cleared to the finish your quote names. Open ground with a few trees sits low; a lot grown solid with juniper and oak, opened down to the soil, sits at the top. Stumps end flush, and taking them out below grade is quoted on its own line.

Lot & Homesite Prep

$1,500 – $4,500 / acre equivalent

Room for the house, the drive, a shop and the run for power, well and septic on a foothill or valley parcel. We finish at the surface; the builder handles grading and the pad.

Small jobs start at a minimum charge of about $1,500. The mulcher comes on a trailer however small the work, so a few cedars behind a house in Mona or one oak patch above Santaquin is billed at the minimum in place of an acre rate, never with a fee on top. Above it, the acre bands set the price, and a neighbor's trees or a second patch done on the same trip get more from the visit.

What Moves a Nephi Quote

How big the junipers are and how many stay

Utah juniper grows very slowly, about a twentieth of an inch of trunk a year, so a big tree has been there a long time and takes the machine longer to bring down. A field of knee-high seedlings is light work. Every tree you flag to keep adds care around its trunk, which costs less than grinding it but more than open ground.

Gambel oak under the juniper

On the east bench, pinyon-juniper grows over a dense Gambel oak understory. Oak brush is slower going than open sagebrush, and its underground root mass sprouts quickly after the top is cut. That is why an oak acre is priced with a return cut in view, and why the quote lists that visit separately.

Slope and loose soil

Soils around Salt Creek Canyon erode easily, and bench lots near town can be steep. A slope the mulcher can work safely still prices above the same growth on the flat. If part of the lot is too steep or too loose for the machine, the quote says so and leaves that ground out or names another way to handle it.

Power lines and burning

Nephi City Power keeps trees 10 feet from its lines and asks owners not to trim near them, so a tree close to a line is left for the city to look at first. Mulching leaves no pile, so Utah's closed fire season, June 1 to October 31, when burning needs the state forester's written permit, does not change the price of a mulched job.

Getting the machine in

The machine arrives on a trailer, so a wide gate and firm ground from the road to the work save hours. A steep two-track up a bench, a tight side yard or clearing scattered in pockets over a big parcel all slow the start. Expect us to ask how a truck and trailer reach the work.

Nephi Pricing Questions

Most work runs $1,500 to $4,500 an acre. Young cedars scattered through sagebrush on level ground usually price near the bottom, and a bench lot solid with big juniper and oak, cleared to bare soil, near the top. A single acre can land anywhere in its band depending on the trees, the slope and the access. The $1,500 minimum is where small jobs start; it is not what a typical acre costs.
You may pay for a second, lighter visit. The first pass is priced in the mulching or brush band; the return cut on oak sprouts, usually a season or two later, is a separate line in the $1,500 to $2,500 band, and you decide whether to take it. Juniper ground does not need that visit for sprouts. The Nephi forestry mulching cost guide works through both.
By the area and the work, not by a per-tree list. A handful of large junipers on an otherwise open lot can price below the minimum by the acre, so it is charged the minimum of about $1,500 in place of an acre rate, never with a fee on top. Cutting very large trees and hauling them away, rather than grinding them, is discussed and priced in the quote. Our Utah juniper removal guide covers which trees are worth keeping.
The same four bands apply from Spanish Fork and Payson to Moroni and Ephraim. Growth, slope and access decide where a job falls in its band, exactly as in Nephi. The towns, offices and local rules are summarized on the Nephi land clearing page.
