What Moves a Quote in Bexar County and the Hill Country

How much of it is cedar

Ashe juniper is the single biggest variable on a Hill Country quote. A pasture with scattered regrowth and a hillside where juniper has closed ranks are the same acre on paper and nothing alike behind the machine. Trunk diameter matters more than tree count, which is why we look at stems rather than canopy during the walk-through.

Rock, caliche, and slope

Thin soil over limestone changes what equipment can do and how fast it does it. Ledge, loose caliche, and steep faces all slow a mulcher down, and they decide whether stump work is even sensible on a given parcel. Flat ground with soil depth is the cheap end of the range.

Which aquifer zone the parcel sits in

Clearing is a regulated activity under the TCEQ Edwards Aquifer Protection Program, and on the recharge zone a plan has to be approved before soil is disturbed. In the contributing zone the rule reaches disturbances of five acres or more, or smaller pieces of a larger common plan. That mostly affects your timeline rather than our rate, but it belongs in the schedule before it belongs in a quote.

The oak calendar

Texas A&M Forest Service advises against pruning or wounding oaks from February through June, and recommends painting oak wounds immediately in any month. When live oaks are part of the scope, that window can move the sequence of the job. Cedar and understory work carries no such restriction, so a project can often start while the oak work waits for dormancy.

Getting the machine to the work

Long caliche drives, cattle guards, narrow gates, and low branches over the approach all add hours before any clearing happens. Parcels a trailer can reach directly from a county road come in lower than parcels that need a staging plan.
