We Clear Your Land

Cedar, mesquite and brush inside the agreed line are ground down, the live oaks and keepers you marked stay up, and any juniper old enough to resprout is noted for the follow-up plan.

3

Enjoy Your Property

Run cattle or goats on it again, put a house on it, hunt it or list it. With the cedar gone, rain reaches the grass and you can see across your own pasture from the gate.

Land Clearing & Forestry Mulching Across San Angelo and the Concho Valley

Cut Brush clears cedar, mesquite and scrub for owners around San Angelo. Jobs range from a weedy lot in town to ranchettes, rangeland that carries fewer cattle each year, fence lines nobody has walked in years, and hunting land that needs lanes and openings.

The main method is forestry mulching. One tracked machine grinds brush into a chip layer on the spot, in a single pass. Nothing is piled, burned or trucked away. We also offer full land clearing, redberry juniper clearing and homesite prep.

We serve Tom Green, Runnels, Coke, Concho, Irion and Schleicher counties, on the dry northern edge of the Edwards Plateau. The brush is mostly cedar (Ashe and redberry juniper), mesquite, lotebush and pricklypear.

Sound Familiar?

  • Cedar has turned good grazing land into brush
  • Cut cedar came back as a clump of new stems
  • Brush piles stuck waiting out a burn ban
  • Mesquite and pricklypear along fences nobody can walk

Cut Brush Delivers

  • Young cedar taken down low enough to end it
  • Older cedar sorted out and given a follow-up plan
  • Brush turned to chips, with no pile left to burn
  • A chip cover left over thin, rocky soil

Why Concho Valley Property Owners Choose Cut Brush

In this dry country, bare ground is a problem of its own. We clear in a way that leaves a cover on the soil and tells you up front which plants may come back.

  • No waiting on a burn ban. Tom Green County has banned outdoor burning more than once in dry spells. Mulched brush needs no fire, so a ban is not a reason to wait.
  • Light on the land. Tracked machines spread their weight over rocky, shallow ground.
  • Published prices. Per-acre bands for each kind of job are on the San Angelo pricing page.
  • No guesswork on scope. When we confirm we can work in your area, the scope and price go in writing before work starts.
  • Built for redberry cedar. The plan sorts young plants from old ones, so regrowth is expected, not a surprise.

From a lot in town to a ranch outside Ballinger or Eldorado, you see the plan and the price first. The San Angelo forestry mulching cost guide covers the numbers.

What to Know Before Clearing Land Around San Angelo

The age of the cedar decides the finish. The Texas A&M Brush Busters program says cutting off the top will not control redberry juniper older than about 8 to 10 years. Seedlings under two feet die if they are grubbed out below the knob at the base. So a stand of young cedar can be one visit. A pasture of old, broad plants is one visit plus a follow-up: a second mulching pass, grubbing, or spraying by you or a licensed applicator. The San Angelo redberry juniper guide shows how to sort them.

Inside the city, stormwater and the weed rule apply. The City of San Angelo's stormwater guidance asks for a pollution prevention plan from one acre of disturbed ground. From five acres it adds a notice of intent and a posted site notice, and any disturbed construction site needs erosion controls. City code also treats grass, weeds or brush over 12 inches as a violation, and it names mesquite and cacti as brush. Out in the county, the Tom Green County Environmental Health Division handles mapped floodplains and septic permits. Requirements vary by parcel, scope and jurisdiction, and the governing authority makes the determination. The San Angelo and Tom Green County permit guide sets out each office.

A burn pile is never a sure thing. Tom Green County has ordered countywide bans on outdoor burning more than once, and a new one can arrive with little notice in a dry spell. The Texas A&M Forest Service burn ban map shows current status. A plan that depends on burning can stall for months in a dry year. Grinding the brush into the ground avoids that wait and leaves a cover over thin, rocky soil.

San Angelo Land Clearing FAQ

The city's stormwater guidance says a construction project that disturbs one acre or more needs a stormwater pollution prevention plan, five acres or more adds a notice of intent and a posted site notice, and any disturbed site, even under an acre, needs erosion controls. Outside city limits, the Tom Green County Environmental Health Division regulates development in mapped floodplains and septic systems. Requirements vary by parcel, scope and jurisdiction, and the governing authority makes the determination. The San Angelo and Tom Green County permit guide covers each office.
Forestry mulching runs $1,500 to $4,000 an acre and full clearing $1,500 to $4,500. Scattered young cedar on open rangeland sits at the low end. Old, many-stemmed redberry juniper and mesquite on rocky ground, or a lot that needs roots out and the surface shaped, sits at the high end. See the San Angelo pricing guide for all four bands and the San Angelo forestry mulching cost guide for the mulching figure.
It depends on its age. Texas A&M research finds redberry juniper resprouts from buds at its base when only the top is removed, and the Brush Busters program says cutting the top will not control plants older than about 8 to 10 years. Young plants taken out at or below the ground usually stay gone. The San Angelo redberry juniper guide explains the difference.
Sometimes. State rules allow land-clearing brush to be burned on the property it grew on, outside city limits unless an ordinance permits it, in daylight and in moderate wind. Tom Green County has banned outdoor burning repeatedly in dry spells, so check the Texas A&M Forest Service burn ban map for current status before counting on a fire. Grinding in place needs no burn at all.
Six counties. Tom Green, with San Angelo, Grape Creek, Wall, Christoval, Carlsbad, Water Valley and Veribest. Runnels, with Ballinger, Winters and Miles. Coke, with Robert Lee and Bronte. Concho, with Eden and Paint Rock. Irion, with Mertzon, and Schleicher, with Eldorado. If your land is in one of these counties and your town is missing, ask anyway.
