Land Clearing & Forestry Mulching Across Palestine and the Post Oak Savannah

Cut Brush clears land for owners around Palestine, from a few wooded acres near Elkhart to larger tracts toward Fairfield or Crockett. That can mean a homesite, an old pasture gone back to brush, a fence line, or woods you want to hunt and walk again.

The main tool is forestry mulching. The machine grinds yaupon, saplings and small trees into chips where they stand, in one go, with no burn pile and no hauling. The big post oaks and pecans can stay. We also offer land clearing, post oak and yaupon understory work, and lot and homesite prep.

We serve Anderson, Freestone, Houston and Leon counties, between the Trinity and the Neches. The high ground here is sandy and drains fast. The creek bottoms are clay and stay wet much longer. Most of the brush is yaupon under post oak, with greenbriar, beautyberry and young pine mixed in, and water oak and willow oak down in the bottoms.

Sound Familiar?

  • Yaupon packed so tight under the oaks that the woods are a wall
  • A creek bottom that stays soft for weeks after the hill has dried
  • An old pasture filling in with sapling oak and volunteer pine
  • A clearing plan stuck waiting for a county burn ban to lift

Cut Brush Delivers

  • Yaupon and greenbriar ground out from under the post oaks and pecans
  • Sandy high ground worked first while the low ground dries out
  • Saplings turned into a chip layer that keeps loose sand covered
  • Brush mulched in place, so a burn ban does not hold the job up

Why Post Oak Savannah Property Owners Choose Cut Brush

Around Palestine, most clearing is understory work: yaupon and saplings packed under trees worth keeping. Mulching is made for exactly that.

  • No fire required. County burn bans here start and end with the weather. Ground brush stays on site, so nothing waits on a ban to lift.
  • Easier on the bottoms. Tracks share the machine's load over a wide footprint, a help on clay that holds water.
  • Published price bands. The Palestine pricing page lists per-acre ranges for each type of work.
  • No guessing at the start. After we confirm availability, you receive the scope and price in writing before work begins.
  • Made for yaupon country. The service is aimed at the yaupon, greenbriar and sapling oak that fill this savanna.

The Texas land clearing cost guide puts those numbers next to the rest of the state. A pin, a rough acreage and a few photos from inside the woods are enough to begin.

What to Know Before Clearing Land Around Palestine

The bottom decides the calendar. A sandy ridge can carry a tracked machine a day or two after a storm. A clay creek bottom over the clay pan can stay soft much longer. Drive a machine through it and you get ruts and torn roots under the oaks you meant to keep. So the quote maps the low ground first, plans to reach it in a dry spell, and works the high ground while it waits. The guide to clearing river-bottom land around Palestine covers the details.

Moving dirt is what brings the paperwork. Inside the city, a grading and excavation permit covers filling, grading, digging or otherwise disturbing the surface, under Article IX of the city code. Projects of 5,000 square feet or more need a stormwater pollution prevention plan, plus a tree preservation plan where one applies. In the county, the 2023 flood damage prevention ordinance requires a floodplain development permit in mapped flood hazard areas, and it counts grading, filling and digging as development. Requirements vary by parcel, scope and jurisdiction, and the governing authority makes the determination. The Palestine and Anderson County permit guide names each office.

Burn bans come and go here. Each of the four counties can start a ban when the weather turns dry and lift it when rain returns. Check the Texas A&M Forest Service burn ban map for the current status. A plan that depends on a fire can sit idle for weeks. Grinding the brush where it falls takes that question away and keeps the sandy soil covered instead of bare.

Palestine Land Clearing FAQ

Cutting or mulching brush is not what the city's grading and excavation permit describes. That permit covers filling, grading, excavating or otherwise disturbing the surface, under Article IX of the city code, and it asks for a stormwater plan on projects of 5,000 square feet or more. Outside the city, Anderson County requires a floodplain development permit for development in its mapped flood hazard areas. Requirements vary by parcel, scope and jurisdiction, and the governing authority makes the determination. The Palestine and Anderson County permit guide covers each one.
Forestry mulching runs $1,500 to $4,000 an acre and full clearing $1,500 to $4,500. Sandy upland with young yaupon and pine sits low in those bands; a clay creek bottom full of water oak, or a tract where stumps must come out, sits high. See the Palestine pricing guide for all four bands and the Palestine forestry mulching cost guide for the mulching figure in detail.
Texas Parks and Wildlife describes Post Oak Savannah uplands as sands and sandy loams and the bottomlands as clay or clay loam, over a clay pan that water barely passes through. The high ground drains within days; the bottom can hold water for weeks. Our guide to clearing river-bottom land around Palestine explains how that changes the order of work.
Not while a county ban is on, and bans in these four counties come and go with dry weather, so check the Texas A&M Forest Service burn ban map first. With no ban, state rules still keep land-clearing fires outside city limits unless an ordinance allows them, in daylight, with a moderate wind and away from neighbours' occupied buildings. Mulched brush needs no fire at all.
Four counties. Anderson, with Palestine, Elkhart, Frankston, Tennessee Colony, Montalba, Cayuga and Neches. Freestone, with Fairfield, Teague, Wortham and Kirvin. Houston, with Crockett, Grapeland, Lovelady, Kennard and Latexo. Leon, with Centerville, Buffalo, Jewett and Oakwood. If your land is in one of those counties and your town is not listed, send the request anyway.
